i'm an all rounder, love sci fi, listen to rock, write songs and poems, lord of the rings, and still i'm classed as a nerd/geek? i read comics, enjoy company, never cry, have a messenger bag, love life, writing a novel, am i an emo kid?

to my understanding, the kid that hates life, slits his/her wrists, wears black, has that hair cut, and listens to "counter culture" music?
sorry for being such a stereotype, i know that not all emo kids are messed up, but the picture the rest of us get is this, so fix up your image

Emo Bands are bands that express emotion and crappy things that happen in life . Emo music that they play relates to other emo,punk, goth or other listener of their music.
examples of emo bands are: My Chemical Romance, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Funeral For a Friend, Hawthorne Heights, Atreyu,Evanessance, From First to Last,Thursday, 30 Seconds to Mars,Boy Likes Girl, and A.F.I.
Somewhat emo bands are: Panic!at the disco,Fall Out Boy, Green Day, Good Charolette,Chevelle, Simple Plan, Plain White T's, Bullet For My Valentine, and Flyleaf.

Kid - not quite a child, not yet an adult
A member of a once-sub-culture born after the death of punk and the rise of power-pop - which has become the latest pop culture. Its identity and entity exist in the ideas that no one understands the emo kid quite like "this" music singer does. Buys effeminate clothing at Hot Topic, sometimes salvation army lends a hand, or takes hand-me-downs.
Proof of these "emo kids" being the current pop culture exist in the numbers. Hot Topic sells more merchandise per square foot than Walmart (The retail store for 90% of the other American cultures combined).
Despite numbers and despite proof, these subjects consider themselves unique, misunderstood, and unidentifiable.
Emo kids rely on their parents to feed, clothe, and shelter them in most cases, yet resent any advice or love broadcast from them (which, sadly, such love is usually the cure for this ailment). Although currently large in numbers and have a stable habitat on myspace.com, the emo kids will become a quickly dying breed, simply because brooding, listening to music, depression, and angst do not make for self-sustainence nor proper job skills.
The emo kid at the mall is waiting for his mom to pick him up. He just stopped by Hot Topic to return his studded gloves and chick pants. He will blog about this on myspace when he gets home.

a large man (effectively), who adopts the stylings of an emo or nerd (i.e. black rimmed glasses, stripy sweater, sensitive hair).
wan teenage girls with short red hair and shawls will see his gimlet eyes, strong shoulders and thick arms, but sense a betrayal of the small, scared child inside. not only has this man got a physique to protect her from the world, but also the heart of a poet.

Emo means emotional, not that you cut your self for all the dicks out there that think cutting them selves means emo.. Well as I said you're a dick. It's an expression of your feeling.
Scene is a style. It's where teenagers dress like how said dicks would picture an "emo" person. Except the scene kids act normally...
Every girl inbetween 12 and 50 is usually emo for about a week out of every month. For those of you who don't get it I'm talking about when a girl has her period. :)
Some people would say being very colorful is scene.
