Fake news

Fake news is a piece of news which has been distributed by a news organisation which contains some form of dishonesty, typically to promote a political agenda. Fake news can be broken down into a number of categories, which are:

Outright lie - The news piece contains a claim which is objectively false.

Lying by omission - the deliberate exclusion of information from the news piece which is critical to properly understanding the situation.

Lying by structure - the deliberate positioning of critical information at the end of a news report, resulting in many people not actually hearing the full story.

Selective outrage - deliberately reporting on a event which supports a particular political narrative, while ignoring similar events which would go against the desired narrative.

Emotive appeal - structuring a news piece in such a way as to attempt to emotionally manipulate the audience instead of focusing on the facts of the situation.

Hidden retraction - a news organisation will make a claim which is false, and then correct their original statement in such a way that fewer people will see the correction than saw the original news piece.

"This news channel is fake news, they are always lying and being dishonest!"

New Mexico

unbeknown to almost all, it IS part of the United States and has NO affiliation to Mexico other than its name and its large population of Latinos

New Mexican resident: Man, it was a long drive here from New Mexico.

Ignorant American: There's a NEW Mexico?!?!

New Tampa

Northern part of Tampa, sandwiched between Tampa Palms and the Pasco County line. Very affluent and clean area. Not much to do except for Starbucks and Muvico, but a great place to live and hang out.

I live in Live Oak and always wind up at Wal-Mart or something. Not much to do here per-se, but it's a great place to live nonetheless. New Tampa is tight!

New York

To the general public:
A large city on the United State's east coast

To the people who live there:
The center of the universe

Public:
I've got a 4:30 flight to New York tomorrow.

Residents:
Other cities? What do you mean?

the new yardbirds

Led Zeppelins original name. The band was originally formed in 1968 by guitarist Jimmy Page under the name The New Yardbirds in order to fulfill some performance commitments booked in Scandinavia before the break up of the original Yardbirds. Vocalist Robert Plant, known from his work with The Band of Joy, was himself on the verge of a record deal when Page saw him perform at West Midlands College of Education with a pickup band of art students and drafted him into the new band. Plant brought with him drummer John Bonham. Bassist John Paul Jones was informed by his wife that Page was forming a group; Jones and Page knew each other well from their days as session musicians and Jones contacted Page who asked him then to join the band.
The band name was later changed to Lead Zeppelin after a comment from Keith Moon (drummer for The Who)

The New Yardbirds started one of the greatest bands of all time.
