not holding on to anything while riding the subway train, when the train turns, stops, goes etc. you get jerked around and have to "surf" to maintain balance

can be both purposeful or accidental (e.g. children are often urban surfing for fun, while adults are forced to urban surf when the trains packed)
The other day these two kids almost knocked me over because they were urban surfing from 110th to 96th. Nobody can survive those rickety turns when the train cuts through the park!

A sport where you go and rub your butts against or "surf" random crotches, on a crowded bus or train. This is a variation of crotch catching, but for people who are shy to use their hands or for people with big asses which makes not playing crotch surfing impossible.
Brenda upon entering the subway: "Hey ya'll. Surfs up! Time to surf some crotches"
Shaniqua: "Because of my gigantic ass, I'm crotch surfing even when I'm not playing. I can ride 6-7 waves at a time. What can I say, I'm a pro."

Riding on the Washington, D.C. Metro (underground, subway) while not holding onto anything, hence giving the sensation that you are "surfing" in the car on the tracks, trying to stay upright while the car twists and turns.

Metro surfing becomes that much funnier to watch when people have been drinking.
