(noun)- someone who lives a lifestyle of politeness, good education, & old money.
preps usually go to new england boarding schools or private schools on the east coast. the schools that they attend usually set them up to go onto Ivy League or outstanding colleges (Princeton, Harvard, UVA, UPENN, Stanford).
preps also have a special taste in clothing. they wear classy & cute clothes from stores like Lilly, Polo Ralph Lauren, J Crew, & Juicy Couture. Preppy colors are tropical such as pink, green (light or dark), baby blue, nantucket red, yellow, white, bright orange. a few normal preppy outfits consist of:
(for girls) Lilly sundress with Lilly flipflops. Polo, ribbon belt, jeans, & birkenstocks. Rugby polo, cords, & rainbow flipflops. hair is occaisionally tied up with a ribbon or colorful headband.
(for guys) shaggy or clean cut hair (can wear a baseball cap or visor to create flip effect). ralph lauren searsucker jacket, oxford, preppy pattern tie, khaki pants, boat docker shoes. polo, searsucker shorts, ribbon belt, new balance sneakers. polo, jeans, ribbon belt, rainbow flip flops. OVERALL: any pastel colored outfit is okay for a prep to wear!
what do preps do for fun?
they participate in school activies including being the life of the school dances and out of school dances. preps always know how to throw a bad ass party or have a good time.
preps vacation on martha's vineyard, nantucket, palm beach FL, the outer banks, rohoboth, etc. any peaceful/wealthy location. preps have pretigue and their family has ooooold money.
preps have expensive cars such as land rovers, jeep wranglers, BMWs, porshes, volvos, lexus, mercedez, lamburginis, etc.
in conclusion, the preppy lifestyle is the only way to go if u want respect. and by NO MEANS it means that u "hate" other types of people like lower class, goths, punks etc.
preppy girl 1: "wow, look at that preppy girl in the cute Lilly dress!"
preppy girl 2: "i know, i have that dress. i also have a beach house next to hers on martha's vineyard."

A human who believes he/she is better than others. Preps are usually seen wearing Abercrombie clothes and are sometimes called Aberzombies. Preps are really fun to laugh at, and usually wear sweat pants because they think they are cool. Preps are associated with pop/rap music, blonde hair, stupidity (i.e. How many days are there in February?), and really tight clothes.

A prep generally refers to girls. They are always happy and sweet, and sometimes cheerleaders, not the slutty kind, but the all-star competitive kind. Preps are not all of those stupid high school girls that love Hollister and wear an inch of powder make-up. Preps love high end designer clothing such as gucci and prada, but most often wear less expencive couture such as Juicy, Sevens, Lacoste, Ralph Lauren, Lilly pulitzer, True religions, and rock and republics. Preps play tennis, golf, ski, go to country clubs, and vacation often. Preps are only blonde if it is natural or they have tasteful highlights. They only wear black to funerals, because there are so many prettier colors to wear. True preps are scarce in north carolina and other boring states, I am the only prep at my school.

In brief, someone who adheres to the upper class "WASPy" lifestyle of New England or the United Kingdom (keep in mind the prep lifestyle is not explicitly limited to these areas). Preps almost always come from "old money" families and attend or have attended preparatory schools.
Preps work hard and play hard, showing a keen interest in academics as well as sports, particularly English sports such as Golf, Tennis, Polo, Squash, Sailing, etc.
Ivy League educations are common among preps, although it is said by some that some of the smaller, liberal arts colleges in the northeast such as Amherst are far more preppy than Harvard could ever be. The equivalents across the Atlantic include Cambridge, Oxford, and to a lesser extent, the Sorbonne in France.
Contrary to popular belief, preps do not wear mall-brand clothes from Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, American Eagle Outfitters, and Aeropostale, but from classic brands such as L.L. Bean, J. Crew, Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, Burberry, J. Press, and Lacoste. The preppy looks is sophisticated, yet understated. Since most preps come from wealth, their privilege is appreciated, but not flaunted.
There are certain concepts that are essential to being preppy, including (but not limited to): having appreciation for sport, knowing why wearing sandals in the middle of a rainy October day is just plain fun, and that "summer" is a verb, not just a noun.
I know this so well because I am one of these "preps".
Guy 1 is an avid tennis player, went to St. Mark's, now attends Yale, summers at Nantucket, and likes Brooks Brothers suits. Guy 1 is a prep.
Guy 2 likes Monday Night Football, goes to Putnam Public High, and wears Abercrombie hoodies with American Eagle Outfitters Jeans. Guy 2 only THINKS he is a prep.
