Grand Strategy

Strategy undertaken on the nation scale. Usually used by military officers from Brigadier General (or country equivalent) rank and up. Can also be a hobby, where enthusiasts are nicknamed "armchair general" and play Wargames. Finally, a sub-genre of strategy games.

Nations that have a centralized command doctrine usually place grand strategy over squad tactics.

1. "Recon has sighted Taliban infantry to the east of here, so we'll send 23rd division here and flank them with 29th division, located here." - General using grand strategy
2. "Did polish lancers really charge at German panzerkampfwagen?" -Armchair General magazine
3. "Fucking comet sighted!" - average Europa Universalis III player

Fleminian Strategy

A wartime application of the basic principle of "hit and run" using a superior navy to almost guarantee the survival of the "runner." It is an almost pirate-like tactic of quick, successive coastline assaults where the attacker never stays on land for a longer duration of time than what is necessary. An amphibious assault is made and the attacker retreats back into the sea before the enemy has a chance to make a decisive land assault on them, a situation the attacker is trying to avoid.

In 1577, Sir Francis Drake of England was sent on an expedition against Spain on the Pacific coastline of the Americas. The rapid, successive attacks made by Sir Drake on that coastline can be seen as an application of Fleminian Strategy.

panda strategy

being stupid, cute, and innocent (or often pretending to be) to make up for your inability to fend for yourself and/or lack of meaningful contributions in life, with the hopes that other people will love and support you out of pity. it's just like real pandas. literally the whole species is useless but they're only alive because "uwu cute"

he can't drive or do taxes, but everyone's happy to support him because he acts like he can't do anything wrong. he's forced to rely on the panda strategy for his survival.
