brb is an abbreviation commonly used to mean, "be right back". it is used in texting and real life. it is so associated with texting that it is called text speak when used in real life.

the term ‘brb’ often comes from the skinny legend ruth where she emphasises she will ‘be right back’ but then proceeds to turn up 3 or more hours later. the phrase brb implies that they won’t be long (around 2 minutes or so) however, this is ironic and contradicts this thought as this is not the case with ruth.
