flake

n: flake

A person whose social and psychological outer layer slips away when under pressure. They lack integrity, resilience and robustness. For their protection they depend upon unrealistic and imaginative constructs.

(I was called out on my use of the word "flake" recently and was challenged to define it. I came up pretty much with the above definition and then went through all the other definitions that people have supplied to the UD for it. I was struck by the consistency of them - especially the self-interest and unreliability. We know who these people are ...)

Flake

A FLAKE is ONLY when a person does NOT inform the person/parties AHEAD* of time that he is unable to make the engagement. On dates, people get STOOD UP. At events, he is considered a NO-SHOW.

Later, flakes generally give lame excuses for their absence or attempt to ignore their behavior altogether.

* A flake is NOT necessarily someone who is LATE or someone who informs the party ahead of time that they are unable to make the event.

โ€œYa know, Bob is such a flake. He coulda (at least) called to let us know that he wasnโ€™t gonna show up.โ€

FLAKE

A flake is a friend who makes plans and does not attend the date. Or someone you can't rely on.

Ashley was supposed to call me yesterday to make a time for that playdate, but she flaked out, what a flake.
