At its best it means interested in politics and government; trying to make a changes in public policy, laws or the government working to get an official elected, or lobbying to have legislation passed, collecting petition signatures. It can also mean a person trying to change things for their own benefit, to gain status or power in the workplace. It can also mean someone who is a nuisance, constantly wanting to change things and who interferes in matters that are none of their concern. At its worst it means a total fuckwit like Russell Brand a self-styled activist for whom politically active means espousing views that the majority of people find repugnant or ridiculous.
Some people are politically active because they have nothing else in their lives.

When someone uses a βwokeβ cause to ensure their social media following knows that they care... when actually, all they care about is their influencer status and the amount of like theyβll get.
βHey, have you seen that Guy is constantly posting about this cause on his feed?β
βYeah, of course... they have to at least LOOK like they care. Performance activism is his forte. Thatβs perfect follower material, right there!β
Activities, both general and specific, that guys normally wouldn't engage in with a group of their guy friends and often times even female friends with whom they have no romantic interest in. Outside the context of dating a girl, participation in dating activities often lowers a man's masculine status among his peers. Thus they are to be avoided when not dating. Dating activities are acceptable when a guy is dating because he really has no interest in the actual activity, but his interest is in the girl and he's just participating to spend some time with her.
Sample of Dating Activities:
Chick flicks (aka dating movies when datiing)
The Notebook (movie)
Dancing (when there's no girl involved unless you are a professional dancer or performer), especially so called formals.
Shopping as a hobby or recreational activity
Dining at EXPENSIVE restaurants especially ones where the food isn't that great, but you're really just paying for the atmosphere and environment.
"Walks in the park"
Yo, Man, what are you doing this weekend?
I'm going to go dancing.
With who?
Courtney.
She's a fox! Alright then, have fun with your weekend dating activity.
The illusion of dedication to a cause through no-commitment awareness groups. Specifically in reference to Facebook groups centered around political issues.
Dave: Man, this genocide in Darfur is terrible. I sure wish I could make a difference.
Jenna: Well, I made a facebook group about it. We have almost one million members!
Dave: That's great! Are you all going to donate money to refugees or something?
Jenna: No, but now those murderers will really know how sad we are!
Dave: Sounds like you're really into your Facebook activism!

The kind of activism undertaken when you "do something" about a problem by tweeting or posting links to Facebook, without any intent of ever actually doing something. Nothing more than a nonsense feelgood gesture so that one can say they "did something about" whatever trendy cause they're pretending to care about. Usually only lasts a week or two before the cause is completely forgotten (i.e. it stops being cool to forward/retweet on the subject).
I forwarded a video about some unspeakable atrocities in a country I didn't know existed until I watched the video. My hashtag activism is going to accomplish something!

Lightskin activity usually refers to actions that enforce stereotypes about African American men with light skin. This includes constantly proving to the world that you're pretty, homewrecking, and being an overall menace to society.
"That man has been giving nothing but lightskin activity."

Similar to facebook activism, the belief that no-commitment activities will result in meaningful social change. This meme results from the belief that awareness is all that is necessary to improve society, rather than actually donating money or time.
Real examples of avatar activism:
I changed my Twitter avatar to green to support Iranis!
I blacked out my avatar to support awareness of Australia's Black Saturday!
