Extra

Being Extra is often misattributed as being inherently an insult or having an inherently negative connotation. But in reality, Being Extra as a pure idea is much broader than that, and actually probably started out as a positive thing.

Being Extra means to "have, give or bring more than is usual, to do more than what's required or necessary"

The reason the word seems to have lost its positive association is simply becasue in trying to define what Being Extra means, we naturally use synonyms. But just purely by chance, the synonyms that most easily come to mind for being Extra all have a negative connotation to them.

Over the top, excessive, unnecessary, uncalled for.

However, some positive synonyms for extra would be: extraordinary, remarkable, unprecedented. Unparalleled. Above and beyond. Often, someone will seem Extra anytime they care about something more than most people would or do.

To call someone extra could be meant as an insult and yet taken as a huge compliment.

Grime, the well-known tattoo artist's style is almost the epitome of being extra in the positive sense. He goes so far above and beyond what people ask for. He always massively exceeds expectations. In other words, Grime is always over-delivering.

People don't achieve extraordinary things without seeming a little extra to the people around them.

Grime is a tattoo maniac! He is so extra about doing great work that he always over-delivers.

When you get a new Apple product, it feels less like you are opening a package and more like you are unwrapping a present. Apple is so extra.
