the word nigger is an ethnic slur used against black people, especially African Americans. It also may be used with a more neutral meaning among African Americans, primarily as nigga.
The word originated in the 18th century as an adaptation of the Spanish word negro, a descendant of the Latin adjective niger, which means "black".
