A person who will do whatever they can to act different from society. They think conforming to society's trends is a bad thing and will then try to be individual by putting themselves in a group where everyone where's the same fucking thick rimmed glasses and has the same androgynous haircut. They drink PBR because they think it's vintage and listen to music you probably have never heard of and most of them more than likely have majored in art and think that makes them a scholar. They without a doubt vote for Obama.They also eat kale and drive hybrids or they don't drive a car at all. A nest of them is growing in Brooklyn , New York. Basically they think they are a counter culture but they are too absorbed in their own smug to realize they are just fucking douschebags.

A hipster USED to be a unique individual. One who didn't try to be anything but themselves, and by doing that made them different.
NOW a Hipster is a young adult and/or teenager who, well to be honest is pretty much everything a Hipster is NOT. They stole the stereotype and made it into their own sort of culture.
Hipsters now, tend to claim they love tea, Underground pop indie music. They of course have to have a Mac and since their parents are loaded they shop at urban outfitters to pay twice as much for "Vintage" looking clothing than at a thrift store. They claim to be an "Artistic Individual" which is why they take on something such as painting or photography, when in reality they suck at it.
Hipsters used to be scene kids, but then they "found themselves and "grew up". They were probably bullied in school which is why being a "hipster" now, somehow gives them the excuse and right to look down on other people and have a higher opinion of things.
Being a hipster is about being unique and the best way to be unique is to be YOURSELF.
The worst hipsters are the ones that deny being a hipster. They usually get very offended when called this.
Person: "Dude you look like a hipster."
Hipster: "I am not a hipster. Hipsters are way to mainstream."

A person who lacks any kind of creativity and therefore wears and does whatever is popular, while simultaneously claiming the dislike anything that is mainstream.
Person 1: "Hey, are you sure you want to buy those shoes? Everyone wears them"
Person 2: "You're right, I don't want to look like a hipster"

A hipster is commonly identified by wardrobe labelled as "non-conformist", which tends to conform exactly to the traditional representation of a hipster. They tend to go to school for liberal arts courses, and flaunt their extensive education, while not realizing that a liberal arts degree gets you jack shit in the real world. An "accomplished" hipster, who has completed said degree, tends to spend a great deal of time in overpriced coffee shops such as Starbucks in order to appear "deep", and "introspective". They protest dressing to impress others, while spending outrageous amounts of money on pre-worn shirts and torn jeans, in order to "fit-in" with the other hipsters they look up to. They claim to be politically aware, but attack all conservative views as fascist, while not understanding the liberal views the claim to represent. You would be hard pressed to find a more contradictory or hypocritical drogue chute on the welfare of society as this sub-human genera. Avoid at all costs.
"Look at that hipster, complaining about how well educated he is, because he can quote statistics about whaling and global warming that he saw on the internet, while he's working at the McDonalds at the mall"

The annoying version of a hippie. A hippie does not wear makeup, keeps their hair natural, and eats healthy foods. Hipsters wear those stupid glasses, post quotes, and say they are a hippie or nerdy.
Peasant: OMG! I'm such a hippie. Look at my glasses. Look I can hold up a peace sign! I am such a hipster.

Basically a city hippy except more conceited. They dress in a way that makes them look like they got dressed in the dark with clashing colors and patterns when in fact they spent a long time getting ready. They really like talking about themselves and their values that can change by the next time you talk to them. They pride themselves on being non-conformists but they are conforming in that way.
"Why does that guy have tall greased hair?"
