Honestly thinks that morality is relative and that the only people who would vote Republican are "closeminded religious fundamentalists who love guns and hate gays". The secular left is the most dangerous movement around today. Two large proponents of the secular left are Barbara Boxer and the ACLU.

The "alpha left in X" refers to the amount of opportunity lies in optimizing across a particular dimension "X". This is a homage to the learning rate in stochastic gradient descent (referred as "Alpha"). If there's a lot of alpha left in a dimension, you more quickly approach the local minima (minimizing loss with larger leaps). Therein lies opportunity through the asymmetry of effort to gain (eg. getting twitter clout or scamming VCs out of money). Once the local minima is reached, large alphas will increase loss, at which point the asymmetry of effort to gain is lost.

Generally, advocates of all-inclusive welfare policies and social policies. Left wingers are protectionist with respect to trade policies and globalisation in general.

Joe: Partly. The fact that all industry was nationalised, completely nullifying any private sector innovation contributed to the philosophy as well. The results were extreme poverty and loss of hope and motivation for the society at large.
