Opposite to Faunacator (who loves animals in the naughty way.)
1. Sally was a fauna fan who worked at a zoo and spent her spare time fundraising for wild animals. Jim was a fauna fan too, but he lived on the moon, so his menagerie consisted of two robotic goldfish and a wall full of animal posters.
2. I'd rather be a fauna fan than a fauna-cator.

An absentee fan is someone who claims to be a huge fan of a sport and/or a team. This person will own a ton of apparel for said sport/team, and watch sportscenter for highlights of that sport/team often. However, this person will never, ever watch actual games of said sport/team, and they will never be emotionally affected by the outcome of that sport/team.
One person may be an absentee fan of multiple sports and multiple teams.
John: Hey Steve, we are all going to watch the Yankees ALDS game at Rick's house tonight, do you want to come?
Steve: Sorry man, I wanted to catch up on some cleaning tonight. Maybe next time. I'll just watch the highlights on sportscenter. I hope the Yankees win though.
Rick (after Steve leaves): Don't worry John, Steve is just an absentee fan.

Easily the most populous fans in the whole NHL and are probably what keeps the NHL alive due to their obsession for hockey.
Leafs fans are also the most controversial hockey fans being hated by many other fans due to their perceived arrogance, bigotry and ability to fill opposing team's arenas despite being halfway across the globe.
Despite all their efforts however, the Toronto Maple Leafs have still not won a cup since the expansion of 1967. Truly tragic.
Coyotes Fan: Dude, you know why our teams are still in business?
Predators Fan: Why is that dude?
Coyotes Fan: Because half of our tickets are bought by Leafs fans just so they can blow over a grand to come here and see their team lose.
