parent scare

Noun: An article or sometimes but very rarely a video that exploits parental instincts in order to scare the parents out of granting their children access to something.

Example:
Person 1: Hey, did you get the new Call Of Duty game?
Person 2: No, my mom says that violent video games cause violence in real life.
Person 1: That's just a parent scare, it's not true.

The average parent

A parent with two kids of different genders, both fit into the social norm. One child is straight the other isn't. They work a 9-5 job in an office and are able to support both kids.

Jack: "Man, Kayla's parents are such the average parent."
Sarah: "Yeah, I wish mine were like that."

Parental Blindness

A parent’s inability to see their child’s athletic ability for what it is.

I just got a call from a parent of a kid that got put on the JV team. She was very upset that her child didn’t get put on the varsity team. That parent suffers from PARENTAL BLINDNESS.

Parental rights

A modern way of saying "I think children are their parent's property." The term is typically used as a dog whistle to defend the ability of parents to abuse transgender children. It is also sometimes used by child predators to justify sexually abusing children.

"I'm not a bigot, but I do believe in parental rights."

Parent shopping

When children ask one parent for something and get a 'no', so they ask the other parent the same question hoping for a different answer. (This can also be applied to the workplace with subordinates and their bosses).

The kids did what? They have to stop parent shopping.

Lazy Parenting

When a parent just spanks and punishes their kid rather than putting in an actual effort to TEACH them appropriate behavior, and to *explain* why they should or can't do something rather than just telling them to do or not to do it.
"Because I said so" is used on a daily basis.

Jane: just put him in time out and get it over with

Lisa: No, that's just lazy parenting and teaches nothing.
