When permission to be racist is granted to the public by somebody famous who says some racist shit (often claiming later it was a “joke - wink wink”) and then hate crimes/hate speech go up against the same ethnic group that was targeted by that famous person. Especially pronounced when other public figures publicly agree with the racist remarks or refuse to publicly criticize them.
