Boys between the age of around 17 to like, 28 who have learned to somehow appear superior to everyone else. They wear a variety of different clothes, contrary to the stereotype of skinny jeans, chucks, cardigans, and tight vintage t-shirts. The stereotypical 'indie boys' are most likely posers. True indie boys wear semi-forgotten, common and sometimes even mainstream items in an ironic way that, even though he is wearing something that everyone else wears, he brings an air of individuality. Items may include Sperry's boat shoes, baseball hat, holiday sweaters, dress shirt, leather belt, dad's tie, zip-up hoodies, Ray Bans, etc.
Unlike emos, scenes, and punks (if there are any punks out there anymore), indie boys do not pile shit up to prove to society their identity. They keep it simple and classy. Indie boys are indie boys, they don't need to prove anything; they've got an aura that says a thousand words, hence their quiet but strong presence.

Alternative rock that largely rejects the machismo and polish of post 90's alternative rock and has a quirky, offbeat sound and sensibility that is mostly rooted in the underground and college rock of the late 80's such as The Smiths and the Pixies . Early pioneers in indie rock include Pavement, Dinosaur Jr., Elliot Smith and Built to Spill. In the 2000's bands like The Strokes, The Shins, the Arctic Monkeys and scene veterans Modest Mouse have achieved mainstream success largely due to the internet and exposure on movies, TV and commercials. Contrary to popular belief the term "indie" does not necessarily have to refer to the record labels the bands sign to and in fact has evolved to refer to the DIY, non-commercial and "independent" approach to songwriting that has largely defined indie rock. The Killers, Coldplay, Keane and Radiohead are NOT indie rock musicians and Snow Patrol was only indie on there first album if at all.
The Shins, The Dismemberment Plan, Modest Mouse, Death Cab for Cutie and Fugazi are all indie rock bands due to their largely uncompromising and non-commercial approach to song writing and there offbeat sounds and sensibility.

A teen who stays out of the usual popular trends and looks at finding and making their own trends. Indie kids are sometimes thought of as hippies because the way they dress is bright or earthy toned. most of these people wear many bracelets and are very creative or artsy. They are very motivated and passionate. Indie kids are very real people who will be very real with you. They enjoy listening to alternative music and "indie music" and love the outdoors and nature. Sometimes they can be loners but are often friends with other indie kids due to similar interests. Very cool people worth befriending.

a wannabe person that goes out of their own way to fall under the category of an "indie"
they usually dye their hair bright colors, such as red, and tear their tights on purpose. they are usally shit talkers, and a patsy, thry are suppoedly madly in love
An indie poser is a kid, an annoying kid that is most likely freshman in high school, usually a girl, that wanders around with no friends looking to be cool in other words a poser, then calling her scene boyfriend and talks about how red her hair is. yeah, it sounds pretty stupid

A preteen/teen (age between 11-16), who is both indie and goth. They will dress indie (in their own independant style), and probably have indie hair too. But their style will be darker than most indie kids. They will usually listen to:
Indie, alternative, rock, metal, alternative metal, screamo, gothic rock etc...
Most indie's, goth's and indie goth's are VERY against emo's/scene's. This is understandable because emo's/scene's "stole" indie style and turned it black. E.g.:
-> Converse
-> Black skinny jeans
-> Band tees
Plus, their used to be loads of good screamo bands, that felt the need to go emo to make money.
So NOT to confused with emo. They listen to indie and metal. Nothing wrong with that. As an indie/goth myself, I get along with indie/goth's, and just indie's and just goth's.
But if there's one thing none of us can stand, it's emo's/scene's.
Personality:
Most people believe indie kids are cocky, but actually most of us are just people who don't really care about much except music. Same with goths mostly. People expect goths to just NEVER talk, and be depressed, but they actually talk a lot and are generally happy people who have a negative attitude on the world, but are still happy.
So indie goth's are people who don't really care about much except music, who take a negative attitude on the world but are happy and independant.
Prep boy: OMG look at the emo wearing converse!
Indie goth boy: Hey! Converse aren't even emo, they stole it off us.

"Indie" stands for "Independent". They listen to indie music, and often use ridiculous words like "raw" and "organic" to describe it. They seem to think their music is different from everyone else's when in fact it is the same.
Indie kids wear clothes from second hand shops, have an unfounded fascination in things like cassette tapes and vinyl, and often wear thick rimmed glasses.
The thing that makes their music "indie" is a mystery. Any type of music can be indie- rock, rap, bluegrass, etc. As long as the audience consists of old plaid and tight jeans, it is indie.
Indie kids get off on listening to music that nobody has heard of.(often times, it is some random crap they found on myspace) If they tell you their favorite band, and you have heard of it, they have failed as an indie kid.
Eric: "I'm so indie, my favorite band has only 14 plays on myspace"
Tom: "I'm so indie, I listen to bands that haven't even been invented yet"
Normal person: "What type of music does your band play?"
Indie kids: "Oh yeah, my band is like new post-modern-pre-hardcore alternative with a hint of crunk and turkish folk. We're pretty raw."
