Raising Awareness

A term used by media-savvy organizations who are all about taking meaningless action that is guaranteed to get their face plastered all over the news, but doesn't do one damned thing to actually fix the problem.

"Men brave the streets in STILETTOS to help in raising awareness of domestic violence."

raise a stink

Alternate term for the act of defecation.

Sharing a bathroom with male roommates can be tricky at times. The key to proper lavatory planning often entails getting in your morning shower before someone else decides to raise a stink.

raising Cain

Because Cain was the first murderer in the Bible, having killed his brother Abel, people use the expression "raising Cain" to describe acts of violence, criminal activity, or any other mischievous acts.

Robert: Whatcha gonna do tonight?
Michael: Nothin' much. Guess I'll just be out raising Cain.

raising cane

Refers to either:
(1) Cultivating tropical sucrose-producing grass.
(2) What da courts in many parts of da world have outlawed when it comes to disciplining children --- it's "time-outs only" nowadays, Folks.

Some people argue dat laws which prohibit "raising CANE" often cause youngsters to be ABLE to misbehave as much as they want. I disagree; most kids start out being inherently good; it's us adults who are da major influence on them to be bad with our OWN improper behavior and impatient disregard for said small-fry's needs and concerns. If we gave our children the care and attention they need, they would actually **want** to be good all the time.
