The name of the 1980's dance often performed to hip hop / rap songs where you stand with your legs still and start to worm your upper body forward and then up and down.
note: many Italian Americans teens were severely scolded doing the "WOP" in the 1980's for participating in such a dance because the name "WOP" is also a word to negatively describe an Italian American. True story!

A derogatory term for those of italian descent. WOP is an acronym that stands for With Out Papers. The roots of this word date back to early italian immigrants who did not obtain proper documents to come work in America, due to the fact that most of them were criminals. Many storekeepers would have signs that said "No Wops" to discourage italians from applying for a job.
My sister just started dating some italian guy. I swear if she gets knocked up, thers's no fucking way I'll ever talk to her or her half wop bastard kid, fuckin' wops!

βWOPβ is the English adaptation and mis-pronunciation of the Ital-Neapolitan word βGUAPPOβ (Pronounced "Guah-ppoh"). The word defines those who belong to the Guapperia o βCamorraβ, a criminal organization similar to the Sicilian Mafia located mostly in the province of Campania (an Italian Province) and its capital Napoli, Italia. The term is still commonly used in Italy especially in Central-South (Meridione) to describe those that either belong to the organization or those that are arrogant to the point of inducing a fight. It was brought to the USA by early Italian immigrants from the province of "Campania" who named those suspected to belong to the "Guapperia": "Guappi", in a similar fashion Sicilians used the term βMafiosiβ. Widely used in Chicago where most immigrants from Campania settled, one of its native sons, Al Capone, was a typical "Guappo", the term was confused by the non Italian population to indicate people of Italian origins, similarly to the word βPaesanoβ. The term has been erroneously explained to mean βWithout Papersβ because of the initials βWPβ or "WOP" by those, Italian descent or not, that have little knowledge of Italian history and dialects. The term has taken a derogatory meaning in North America and for many refers to people of Italian origin or background.
You are a real βwopβ, meaning you are arrogant
