Net Lag

the sum of jet-lag-like symptoms caused by watching a series of matches (e.g. the FIFA World Cup) live, in the small hours of the night, due to major national time differences, over a period of days or weeks (with "net" referring to the net in soccer, or tennis, or volleyball, etc.)

There are still two late-night World Cup matches to watch! Football has caused me a lot of very late nights this month, and I'm blooming knackered, suffering from an acute case of "net lag"!

lag spike

A term used to cover up poor performance of a player in a multiplayer game. The term describes the delay in the thought process of the player and his inability to perform as the rest of the group would expect from a player with their claimed experience and gear.

"Sorry for wiping the group, I'm getting major lag spikes."

(Player realises they messed up and are at risk of being kicked from a party): "Sorry for stepping on that bomb, I'm getting major lag spikes."

Team member: "FFS kick the noob paladin, they've done less dps than both tanks for the last five wipes and they've stood in the fire every time!"
Paladin: "Sorry. I've been getting lag spikes all evening."

Flag Lag

In American Football, the few seconds after a long play for a touchdown, to make sure that the score wont be called back because of a penalty.

"Did you see that celebration after that 100 yard kickoff return?!"

"He's obviously not compensating for Flag Lag."

Kill-lag

When a game run perfectly, but suddenly lags for a split second, followed by death, in which could have been avoided if not for said lag

I only died because of kill-lag.

the time after jagging off in which the person is lazy and unable to take on difficult tasks
