"Post-Trap" denotes a broad spectrum of active artists who saw success following Trap Rap's initial wave of underground popularity from the early 2000s to the mid 2010s. This change in direction was accompanied by a wide array of influences such as Pop Rap, Experimental Hip Hop, Post-Industrial, Cloud Rap, Alternative R&B and Synthpop.
While technically proficient lyricists are not uncommon, performances are typically simplified and often centered around a singular hook, with autotune and reverb being used to enhance the music's atmospheric and melodic qualities. The application of autotune to the performer's voice in a pop context is an aesthetic choice largely borrowed from Kanye West and Kid Cudi's late 2000s output, whom many have cited as having a sizeable impact on their music.
