Political compass

The political compass is a political defining square, with four quadrants, with a questionnaire to identify you. As the political spectrum was quite unreflective of a lot of factors, they added a y/social axis to the current x/economic axis. A great example of why this is better than the plain old spectrum is Franceโ€™s National front. It is often dubbed as โ€œthe far right party of Franceโ€, however, a lot of its economic policies are further left than the socialist party, so, it would give a lot more context to its beliefs. Authoritarianism tends to believe in government control, while libertarianism tends to believe in less government. Economic left tends to believe in spending more money and being open to progression, while conservatism tends to believe in cutting spending, and taking a cautious approach to progression. This has resulted in left wingers believing in equality and conservatism believing in hierarchy.

Where are you on the political compass?

immoral compass

The means by which some people are guided to do the wrong and unethical thing when no one is watching in most circumstances.

While healing in the hospital with a broken jaw, Ron thought about how he could restrain his immoral compass after a night where he stole cash and weed from Chuck while he was making out with Diane; told Diane that Chuck had herpes after he left the party; and then crept into Chuck's car to sleep afterwards only to wake to Chuck's spinning backfist.

The Golden Compass

Noun:

1. The first book in the His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman.

2. An object of the same name or alethiometer (literally Truth-Measure) within said book. It is used by Lyra (the protaganist) to find truth and meaning throughout her journey. It resembeles a large golden-colored pocketwatch with three knobs on it's rim. It opens to reveal an ornate circle with 36 distinct symbols at it's edge with three large hands and one small hand which move around it. Each symbol has a series of meanings which, when held in one's mind may pose as a question or an answer. The big hands move to form your question with the knobs and the little hand moves to give the answer.

Very like a clock, or a compass, for there were hands pointing to places around the dial, but instead of the hours or the points of the compass there were several little pictures, each of them painted with the finest and slenderest sable brush.

"When that guy asked me 'Big Isssue, sir? Would you like to help the homeless', I screamed at him 'don't fucking try and socially engineer me with your claim that giving you ยฃ1.40 is going to solve homelessness!' I'm normally such a nice guy. I don't understand myself. Maybe it was compassion rage."
