Say there are three people (A, B, C). A is dating B, but has been putting enough effort into a relationship with C that if A and B breakup, A can be in a relationship with C.
"I heard that Samantha has been leading Ben on even though she's dating Nick."

1. The act of backing up a friend's Facebook status, usually by request, either by liking or commenting on it, or both.
2. The act of liking/commenting on someone else's statuses in order to prompt them to like/comment on your statuses.
1. (To a friend) "Bro, I posted my status like two hours ago and no one's liked it. Give me a little status backup?"
"Yeah sure thing man, hakuna matata."
2. (Thinking to oneself) "Hmm, I bet if I comment on some of Jenna's statuses, she'll like some of mine and give me some status backup."

Underwear one resorts to wearing only when in desperate need of doing laundry. Though these undergarments may be ugly, fit weirdly, or have holes, one has chosen not to throw them out just so they can serve this purpose. Such undergarments may be deemed unwearable for a regular day, but are still one step above re-wearing dirty underwear, allowing the user to postpone doing his laundry for one more day.
Guy 1: What the hell man... why are you wearing olive green boxers with a hole in the crotch?
Guy 2: They're backup boxers... I wasn't paying attention to how much underwear I had left and I ran out of good pairs.

Backup dancer came up about 2014 when I kept having friends bring these randoms out them. These people tend to not know they are backup dancers. They generally bring nothing to the table, occasionally they have money but 9 times they are just here to make you look good. They are sometimes mistaken for acquaintances but normally you don't know much about they. After a while they graduate from backup dancing to actually friends.
Who'd you come out with ? Some backup dancers!

Backup College is a well-known school located in Chestnut Hill, MA. It is more commonly known as Boston College.
I got into BC, but I turned it down for Notre Dame.
Student 1: Hey, I need a good safety school in case Notre Dame, Georgetown, Villanova, and Fordham reject me. What's a good one?
Student 2: Have you looked into Backup College in Massachusetts?
