Magnus Carlsen is the best chess player in the world. After losing a match against a significantly lesser player, Hans Niemann, Magnus withdrew from the tournament. Middle school drama ensued as people began to speculate that Magnus was implicitly calling Hans a cheater.
It's a dick move to withdraw from the cup like that; it's basically unheard of since Bobby Fischer.
An event similar to a plot twist in the Chicago One franchise directed by Dick Wolf, hence the name.
