touch base

Most appropriately a business expression originating approximately 40-years-ago derived from the sport of baseball. During that time it was a novel and well accepted slang for the purpose of getting-in-touch with someone over any form of matter. By 1990, it became so over used to the point of becoming a corny expression eventually leading to the use mostly by an asshat as described. Today, such an expression is regarded practically as an insult for this very reason and is taken as a form of senseless needling, often meant to offend one's intelligence.

The only businesses who have become notorious for the term are financial institutions where, in fact, new employees are actually taught to use it in the form of customer psychology as it belittles the status of the borrower in relation to the lender, e.g., reminding the customer who the lender is and that they are in debt.

"Hi, John, this is Lois at Bullshit Finance! Just wanted to touch base and see how you are?"

65th base

Guy 1- I just made it to 65th base with Kate!

Guy 2- Wow, how did you get high enough to climb in?

Base Rat

Defining the trashy women who hang around military bases looking for their next meal ticket. These worn out women usually have one or more children from different men, and only minimal education. They seek military men as a means to get insurance and a house for them and their offspring. They somehow convince poor soldiers to get married within a few months and shortly after they get pregnant with their kid, to ensure that their cash cow is forever attached to them. Most of these relationships end in either divorce or with the woman draining the soldier of all their assets and then leaving them for the next soldier.

hmm another poor soldier trapped by another base rat

Base Pad

A misnomer of the baseball term โ€œBase pathsโ€ which refers to the imaginary line from the center line (unmarked) between first to second to third base. It also includes the line (marked) from home to first and from third to home The runner is not allowed to leave this imaginary line to avoid being tagged out, unless the runner is avoiding a player fielding a batted ball.

The variation derives from a mispronunciation of the term โ€œbase pathโ€ where the โ€œthโ€ in โ€œpathsโ€, is lazily spoken resulting in a โ€œZโ€ or โ€œDโ€ sound at the end of the word.

Background:
On the New York Mets Message Board August 28, 2010, poster โ€œC0braโ€ Insulted fellow posters for not having heard of the term โ€œBase Padsโ€ and continued to insist that it was in fact, a real baseball term. Poster โ€œIlikethemetsโ€ was first to call out the mistake, hilarity thus ensued.

โ€œyou don't know what a base pad is? wow do you even watch baseball lolโ€ -C0bra

--Echo Base--

After abandoning their headquarters at the Massassi outpost on Yavin 4, the core group of the Rebel Alliance established Echo Base on the Hoth. Alliance engineers worked non-stop to adapt their technology to withstand the subzero temperature extremes of the frigid ice planet. When the technicians were unable to get the T-47s functioning in time, the Rebels domesticated the indigenous tauntaun for use as a patrol mount.

The nerve center of Echo Base was its darkened command center, where General Rieekan issued orders to the rest of his troops. Here, Alliance scanner operators carefully monitored incoming data from the scattered sensors placed by Rebel scouts in the Hoth wilderness.

Protecting Echo Base was a powerful energy shield strong enough to deflect Imperial bombardment. When the Empire arrived in the Hoth system, the Rebels erected the shield, forcing the Imperials to engage in a ground battle. The Rebels speedily evacuated the personnel and equipment they could aboard Rebel transports with starfighter escorts, offering covering fire for the fleeing ships from a massive ground-based ion cannon.

As the transports retreated, the Rebel ground forces and snowspeeder squadrons covered their escape by delaying the Imperials for as long as they could. Rebel troopers dug into snowy trenches, blasting at the incoming Imperials with turret-mounted laser cannons and blaster rifles. The Imperial walkers were unstoppable. The Rebels were routed and Echo Base was overrun.
