Death Metal

Death Metal is a form of music that mostly stays in the underground side of music with speed metal orgins, fast drumbeats, and a deep growl singing to it. Some death metal can be looked to as "crap" but so can most punk bands

The Death Metal band sacraficed the punk.

nu metal

A new subgenre of metal which includes bands such as Korn, Slipknot, Disturbed, and various others from the late 80's to today.

Is often bashed and heavily criticized by "true metal fans" for being "mainstream", or for having "no talent"

These guys are just introducing a new metal sound, guys. Get over it. Many people like it, and that's why it became mainstream. I might not like some of the bands, but I don't call them "fake" because of that. They're just as much metal as Metallica or Slayer are, and just because they sound different doesn't mean they suck. It sure would be boring if all bands sounded the same, don't you think?

I like all kinds of metal - power, thrash, progressive, and even nu. Here are some examples: I like Slipknot but I don't like Slayer. I like Children of Bodom but I don't like Korn.

It's still that metal I know and love, so I listen to it. If I don't like a band, I just don't listen to it. I don't come here and call them fake. If I wanted to complain, I'd at least give good reasons for my complaint.

Idiot: omg liek nu metal sukks its soo fake lol omg lizzen to real metyl liek Metallica or Slayer lol roflz

Non-Idiot: Dude, just because it's a different genre doesn't mean it's fake. Just appreciate it or shut up about it.

gothic metal

A loosely defined genre of metal, originally stemming from a comination gothic rock and other genres of metal (in many cases black). The majority of gothic metal bands have a heavy use on keyboards. Common lyical themes are sex, love, and self discovery.

Gothic metal also is not restricted to a single vocal style. Within gothic metal there arew 4 main vocal styles: Deep operatic male vocals, clean female vocals, harsh male vocals (usually a screech/shreik, Cradle of Filth stlye), and "Beauty and the Beast" where harsh male vocals trade off with clean female vocals.

Some of the gothic metal pioneers were Type O Negative, Cradle of Filth, and Moonspell.

Cradle of Filth, Lacuna Coil, and Type O Negative are probably the most main-stream gothic metal bands in the U.S.A.

Metal Moses

The nickname given to Mark Hunter. The lead singer of the band Chimaira. Given because he was one of the first innovators of the wall of death where he would part the whole venue down the middle and when he counted down, (usually the song Pure Hatred) the two sides would clash like the closing of the parting of the red sea. He recieved the nickname because he had dreadlocks that made him get the name Moses. Thus "Metal Moses"

Metal Moses totally fuckin destroyed the crowd last night.

goth metal

A kickass subcategory of heavy metal that is a combination of goth rock and heavy metal. Usually, but not always, has a gorgeous in sight and sound female vocalist as the lead singer and unfortinatly in alot of cases has a male vocalist who cannot sing but can only speak and growl like a death metal vocalist. But not always. Sometimes the male lead singer can sing or if it is a female and male singer the guy can sing.

Uses keyboards alot and lyrics are typically about religion and God, heaven and hell, romance, horror, depression, bereavement, emptyness, and death. As for an image, they usually have a form of a gothic image but has is not the stereotypical goth look.

Popular in Scandinavia and Western Europe.

Theatre of Tragedy, Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, Nightwish, Tristania, Sins of Thy Beloved, After Forever and Paradise Lost just to name a few.
