Hermione Effect

1. The apparent attractiveness of a nerdy, bookwormy, down to earth girl over a hot babe because of her loyalty, personality, and ability to hang with the guys.
2. Getting turned on by a girl that is smarter than you, specifically in an instance in where she actually proves it.

1.
"I think Sarah, that girl from biology, is way hotter than suzie...but then again, it could be the Hermione Effect."
2.
Guy 1: "Dude, I was so hot for that nerdy girl from math yesterday when she was tutoring me. I mean, the way she spoke about the stuff.... it was so hot."
Guy 2: "Man, that's just the Hermione Effect"

Mass Effect

A role-playing-game originally exclusive to the Xbox 360 (now available for PC gaming as well). Overall, an entertaining and enrapturing game with an original plot and setting (which is sufficiently rare in any game with a storyline nowadays) Hours can fly by if you aren’t careful.

It probably could have been called "Mass-turbation Effect" also, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing at all. The game is chock-full of all manner of women with supermodel bodies. None of them are anywhere approaching "overweight" and all are wearing skintight outfits: Armor (aptly named "hardsuits"), medical uniforms, casual wear and spacesuits are all form-fitting. Even the Alien ladies sport a homosapien figure... Players can even choose to set the main character as a woman which allows them to stare at their perfectly formed arse whilst blasting their way through hordes of enemies on some of the most perfect maps to ever grace an RPG

Horny Hormonal under 17 Gamer: "Dude! I cant buy Mass effect because it's rated 'M'! Can you believe that?"

Horny Hormonal 17+ Gamer: "Sucks for you! But anyways, it shoulda been rated 'T' for 'T&A throughout' Bow chicka wow wow!"

ESRB Notice: β€œThis game is highly conducive to masturbation. Hand to penis interactions not rated by the ESRB”

Yoko effect

The aftermath of an individual in a group of friends dating a nut-case girlfriend or boyfriend. The significant other will intentionally or unintentionally control the group member's entire life and eventually stomp out anyone he or she sees as 'unfit' based on arbitrary criteria. Comes from Yoko Ono's effect on the Beatles, where her attitude towards the rest of the band and influence over John Lennon resulted in animosity and the eventual estrangement of John and Yoko from the group.

friend1: Why don't we see Mark anymore?
friend2: The Yoko Effect, Mark is our John and his Yoko hates us

donut effect

When you learn a word or phrase for the first time, then subsequently hear it used frequently. (From Dunkin Donuts, "time to make the donuts.")

Dude, I just learned that neologism means a made up word, then later that week I heard it, like, three times. Total donut effect.

The Whipple Effect

The Whipple Effect is the gross misuse of time and resources in lieu of the obvious easy solution. This is often seen in television newsrooms. The perpetrator often is short and skinny with a mustache (IE he looks like Mr Whipple). His past experiences are marketed to the victims as "he knows everything".

Jack: "Why are there 5 photographers at this press conference?"
Jim: " Mr Whipple sent them all."
Jack: "Damn that's the Whipple effect right there!"

Schwarzenegger Effect

The Schwarzenegger Effect is used to describe a situation whereby someone wins an award or is selected for preferment, based on reputation and not by results.

The background to this phrase is based on the generally accepted opinion that Arnold Schwarzenegger won his 6th Mr. Olympia title on his reputation and not because he deserved to win.

Bob: Man, you had a tight car stereo installation! Well done in taking 2nd place in the 'Auto Sound Off' contest!
Dave: Thanks man, but I really thought our team should have won and not Mike!
Bob: That's the Schwarzenegger Effect dude - you know Mike is the man around these parts!
