Electronic Music

Electronic music is a term for music created using electronic devices. This genre of music is loosely referred to as techno. While this is incorrect, techno IS one of the many genre's of electronic music, also known as EDM, electronic dance music. While some consider electronic music to be nerd music, many would be shocked to learn that their beloved hip-hop is actually electronic music, made with computers, synthesizers, and drum machines. While the basis of techno and hip-hop are the same, EDM is a mindblowing musical masterpiece, can sometime sound like a classical symphony with a hard-hitting bassline. Music made a break-through in the 70's with synthesizers, which started a new movement in music. With these synthesizers and digital machines, the way was paved for electronic music. Electronic music, especially in the late 1990s fractured into many genres, styles and sub-styles, too many to list here. Probably one of the most popular forms of EDM is house music. 'Techno' remixes of your favorite pop song, are usually house music. Styles that are primarily intended for dance such as disco, techno, house, trance, electro, breaks, jungle, drum and bass. Others, such as IDM, glitch and trip-hop, are more experimental and tend to be associated more with listening than dancing. Since around the mid-1980s, electronic dance music has enjoyed popularity in many nightclubs, and, as of 2006, is the predominant type of music played in discothèques as well as the rave scene. As such, the related term club music, while broadly referring to whatever music genres are currently in vogue and associated with nightclubs, has, for some, become synonymous with all electronic dance music, or just those genres — or some subset thereof — that are typically played at mainstream discothèques. It is sometimes used more broadly to encompass non-electronic music played at such venues, or electronic music that is not normally played at clubs but that shares attributes with music that is. What is widely considered to be club music changes over time, includes different genres depending on the region and who's making the reference, and may not always encompass electronic dance music. For example, as of 2006, hip hop music, being widely played in clubs, is one form of "club music" to many, but a smaller percentage would describe it as being a form of electronic dance music. Similarly, electronic dance music sometimes means different things to different people. Both terms vaguely encompass multiple genres, and sometimes are used as if they were genres themselves. The distinction is that club music is ultimately based on what's popular, whereas electronic dance music is based on attributes of the music itself.

pop music

Simple "music" for simple people.

You can compare pop music to McDonald's. It's readily available and it's advertised everywhere, and it is definately not good for you.

musical masturbation

A plague of many modern electric guitarists. Long and excessive solo on the guitar or other instrument, to show technical superiority rather than compositional and songwriting skills.

Classical Music

The Classical Period in music lasted from 1750 to 1820, falling in between the Baroque and Romantic eras; however, the term "classical music" has become synonymous with all instrumental music composed during the middle ages. Notable composers include Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, and many more. Although music from this era has endured considerable bias in today's modern world, with many idiots saying it's "not cool", I see no reason at all to propagate reverse discrimination and immediately start bashing rap for "having no emotion" and stating that classical music is the only "real" music. Shit like that is only furthering the image of classical music fans as closed-minded elitist snobs who refuse to try anything else. I happen to enjoy both rap AND classical music as well as many other genres, and I can tell you that if you look beyond no-talent asswipes like Soulja Boy, rap is a very enjoyable listening experience that deserves respect like any other genre. As for having "no emotion" - listen to Mockingbird by Eminem, or Dear Mama by Tupac, and then try telling me that rap is all meaningless garbage about bitches and bling. Rap can be poetry... or it can be the meaningless shit that is played on our radio stations all day long, the crap that will be forgotten in a few years to make way for the newest fad. If you're a true fan of music, you won't be a closed-minded fucktard like the person who wrote the first definition. The classical music we hear today is still remembered and loved because it was the best of the best - do you honestly think that there weren’t no-talent idiots back then as well? There were ALWAYS people like that, but we don't hear about them because they were all executed by the king as soon he got bored of his latest fad. It's the same thing with today’s music. In a few centuries or so, assuming humans haven’t died out by then, the artists that will be remembered and studied are the Eminems and Tupacs, the Pink Floyds and the Led Zeppelins - all the greats will be remembered and studied, alongside composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach. In three hundred years, no one will have heard of Soulja Shit or 50 Cent. So stop being assholes about rap, because you are only forcing a bad reputation upon the fans that actually happen to have more than half a brain.

Cool Person 1: I like classical music.
Cool Person 2: Really? Me too! I also like rap, rock, techno and country!
Cool Person 1: Yeah, me as well!
Stupid fucking retard 1: Your musical taste SUCKS ASS! I ONLY listen to classical music, because it is the only REAL music ever made!
Stupid fucking retard 2: No, you’re ALL wrong. Rock is the only REAL genre!
*The retards proceed to stand there arguing for the rest of the day.*
Cool Person 1: …right, that was annoying. Wanna go get lunch?
Cool Person 2: Sure.
*The cool people leave. Meanwhile, the retards continue to argue.*

Pop music

Pop music is probably the biggest waste of time this side of Rap. Mostly, the singers are stupid teens with no talent singing about love or what a great day it is. Pop artists never touch on serious or meaningful topics, as it would alienate their fanbase.

Country music

At one time a deep, earthy, and universally respected genre of folk music embraced by people from all walks of life, and performed by heartland poets who wrote touching melodies and thought-provoking but subtle messages about life, love, and loss, country music has now grown into a dim shadow of its former greatness.

Record companies have appropriated it for their own profit as they will with any great artistic movement. Insipid, voiceless dandies with the depth of wading pools have been propped up as the new "idols." Irresponsible and uninformed political rhetoric has usurped the lyrical foreground, alienating many fans and completely betraying the music's original status as art for the everyman, while mediocrity and uniformity sum up the musical direction.

If we can ever be blessed again by another visionary, a Williams Sr., a Cash, a Cline, or a Miller, maybe things will change. But for now, country music remains a brutally raped and distorted picture of art stolen from the artists.

You call that country music? Toby Keith is nothing more than an obnoxious, pre-packaged pretty-boy masquarading as a country artist! Shut that crap off and play me some Johnny Cash!!!
