metal mama

A chick, usually older than the typical crowd a metal show/club, who is most likely divorced with at least 2 kids. She usually starts to hang around with a group of younger metalhead guys, and if you play your cards right, will either blow you in the alley, or take you home and nail here while her kids are sleeping.

"Back in 91'-92' my buddy and I were constantly gettin ass from this metal mama who lived on Staten Island. What a total piece of ass!!!!!!!!"

Heavy Metal

I really can't blame anyone for hating metal when they get their exposure from headbanger's ball. Understand that true metalheads don't call most of that shit metal. Most of it's there just to sell an image. Most real metal is way underground. You really have to look around to find the good stuff since it's an extreme artform that most people can't appreciate. Chances are that the mall won't carry any good metal except for bay thrash (basically just metallica and megadeth, and even there you have to know what you're looking for.) Instead of giving you a rundown of all the awesome metal bands out there, I'll give you some reasons to be intrigued.

1.True metal is based around a philosophy that one should take action to remake the world as one sees fit. The best example the the phenomenon of black metal. At its beginnings, it was not so much a music genre as an underground social movement, that centered around several bands in Norway such as Mayhem and Burzum. The satanic imagery was used not so much as a litteral reference to Satan as a symbol of the counteraction to Christian culture. The goal of these bands was litterally to rid Norway of Christianity and return it to its pagan roots. People connected with the band did indeed burn churches, but it was not for shock value, it was what they believed in.

2.Much true metal is more technically involved than any other music except for classical and real jazz. Obviously the drums and guitars and very fast, but also death metal is strenuous for the left hand because of the number of diffent notes being played and the unusual orders they come in. Black metal is very layered and harmonic and requires a good understanding of scales and modes. Usually the keyboard parts are very complex. The drumming is also complex, and not just fast, especially with math metal, which is often very syncopated and some bands such as Meshuggah use polymetrics to create an extrordinarily disjointed sound which is difficult for almost anyone to follow. Also the melodic singing is more demanding than most types of music, and even the growling vocals and more difficult to do convincingly than you might imagine.

3.There is more diversity in metal than most genres, everything from the soaring symphonic arrangements of bands like Nightwish and Sonata Arctica to sheer noise and aggression to the barely controlled chaos of the Dillinger Escape Plan to the folk awesomeness of Finntroll and everything in between.

In short, true metal is not about pretense like most of the modrock and fashioncore popular today. Yes, there are some shitty metal bands out there, but if you can find the ones that are there because they believe in themselves and have real talent, you may really start to appreciate them.

Death Metal

Death Metal is probally one of the most unknown and unpopular genre's there is today, even though it is very hard to play and requires immense skill. The solo's are usually very high pitched and are fairly common. Bassist's play a big part in death metal and are usually extremely skilled. e.g alex webster of cannibal corpse. Most metal fans that dont like Death metal are usually dickheads who have never sat down and listened to the genre throughly before. Lyrics span from crazy gore and horror to politics to stuff about satan and the devil. Some people say that Death Metal is a bunch of noise, they are cunts who cant listen to music properly because even though the usually low vocals may make it sound like a mash of music it is really not!

may i mention i am only 13 and death metal is my favourite genre which may surprise some of you old-school death metallers who think death metal is nearly dead, which i hope it isnt! My favourite Death Metal bands are Cannibal Corpse, In Flames, At The Gates, Deicide, Carcass and six feet under

Groove Metal

Also called post-thrash, and as the name suggests, it's an extreme metal formed after thrash made its wave.

It blended heavy metal, thrash metal, and hardcore punk together and it came into being in the early 1990s thanks to bands such as Sepultura, Machine Head, White Zombie, Exhorder, Fear Factory, and Pantera.

Just like grunge and (eww...) rap, groove had alot of popularity. There are barely, if not no, groove metal bands that suck ass and any of them are worth a listen even if you are more into grunge or whatnot.

Groove metal was a MAJOR influence to nu metal. Oh yeah about that...

{to nu metalers}
Sepultura, Fear Factory, and Machine Head (ya know, major groove metal bands) experimented with nu metal during it's rise to popularity... however, they did not like their results when that happened and stuck with their old material. Where's your god now, losers?

Metal Head

A metal head is someone who likes metal. No questions. No classifications on what you have to do to be a metal head. People specify what bands are not metal, that's just wrong. It doesn't have to be Lamb Of God, or Pantera. It could Slipknot, Slipknot is metal. It's a mixture. Anything that is metal IS metal. Almost all of my friends listen to rap and totally misinterpret it, except for two. Not all metal heads like fights. I HATE fights. You don't have to freaking like heavy metal to be a metal head. I listen to melodic metalcore, like Trivium, KSE, and sometimes Slipknot ( Not really melodic but I listen to it)

Metal Head #1: " Dude what the fuck are you doing listening to Slipknot thats not metal!"

Me: " Dude fuck off I like it and it's metal. Doesn't have to be Heavy metal or death metal or what ever. So fuck off"
