A contact geek is a person who left to their own devices would not typically be a geek. A person who is a contact geek understands anime, videogame, coding and/or science references only because they've heard these terms mentioned by their geek friends and at some point have suffered an explanation by those same friends. A good manager will often become a contact geek as a matter of survival.
On the show "Saved By the Bell", Zack was the coolest character in high school but he was also a contact geek due to his close friendship with Screech.

On Saturday night I settled in with a big pile of junk food and caffienated beverages to watch the whole original Star Wars trilogy (Empire twice, 'cause it's the best) while reading slashdot and planning my next case mod. But don't tell anyone I totally geeked out
