You know it's kind of stupid and sad to see the definition of emo written about by people who not only dont like/listen to the music but dont have a clue what it is and are just writing their definitions to be funny or mock.
So,to those,please get a life because to do that you abviously dont have one.

The term Emo was coined from bands in the 80's that had a strong punk influence but didnt appeal as much to the violent aspect of the genre and so inturn Emo was created.
It started with bands like moss icon,fugazi and teen idles and then as it progressed it turned softer with bands like sunny day real estate,braid and the get up kids.
The style of emo kids back then was converse all star high tops,messenger bags with pins on the straps,gas station jackets,argyle sweater vests,thick rimmed glasses, short messy greasy black hair.Most clothes woud have been baught from a thrift store.

Person who is not afraid of being who they are. Someone who is not afraid to be dark but not sinister. Someone who is hated by those who don't understand. Someone who is not afraid to feel negative emotions. Someone not fake in anyway. Unless they are a poser. Emo people are sexy people open to love and not afraid to hate. Someone free to be who they are. Not going make the same mistake as preps. which is to comform to every trend in the world. Artistic people who are very talented and know who they are. Lover of music and art. Person with very good hair. Sexy and uninhibited. Dark and scene full of emotions positive and negative. Unlike most stereotypes they are not fags, they are just who they are. Lover of being hated because it shows how insecure people in the world are.

emo is short for emocore short for emotive hardcore a genre of music that started in the mid 80s it was started by punk bands who added more emotion into there music it started around the Washington D.C. area. it has been associate with crying for the fact that it makes you think and lets you express your self and let out emotions. there are many emo bands out there ranging from much screaming to little or non at all from i am ghost to fall out boy. also in the subculture metal nu rock or nu metal band have also become popular such as slipknot and linkin park also there r small secs of emo such as screamo
since then it has taken on a role as a way of lie a hair style and a fashion though what you wear does not make you emo the preferred cloths are tight band T shirt black skinny jeans black hoodies also fingerless gloves and spiked wrist bands can also be add but remember that doesn't mean you are or aren't emo. also the preferred hair style for boys is bangs over front spiked in the back normally a little pass the ears for girls highly teased and layered. make up for girls and boys are eyeliner and black nail polish. it has also been associate with cutting this again is stereotypical while some do cut not all do and just because you do doesn't mean your emo also no not all emo boys are gay. they have been made fun of because of their differences but there actually is nothing wrong with being emo.

Emo was invented in the late 80s as an attempt by white suburbanites to keep african-americans from migrating to the suburbs. The word is derived from its NSA acronym EMO (Ebony Migration Obliterator). It was designed to possess everything black people hate: irritating vocals, whiny lyrics, subdued dress style, and a complete undancability. Black people react to this music as if they were hearing nails on a chalk board and it is greatly responsible for the racial divide in suburbs today.
There has never been a black man attend a emo concert ever.

Emo is defined by a group of 14-17 year old suburban highschool students who complain about how hard they have it. Emo followers complain about how their parents make them grow up in an upper middle class enviornment. To be emo you must listen to emotional garbage pop artists such as Taking Back Sunday, The Killers, and other lame bands of that sort. An emo person will also have a myspace page set as private so they can feel like they are depriving someone from being their friend by their choice. Emo people always have extremly tight clothing mainly in the color black. They have 1/3 of their face covered by their greasy flat hair. This is believed to cover their eye so nobody can see into their tortured soul or some b.s.
An example of an emo is that loner who sits in the corner with his group of homosexual looking goths. Emo and goth are completely seperate catagories and are not to be confused with one another. Goths usually have some substance to their being and do not want approval from others. Where emo's want to act like goths but will never get the slitest amount of respect from anyone.

Teenagers who think its cool to dye their hair black, not wash it and then sweep it to the side of their face. They listen to depressing music to make themselves feel better about their depressing lives. They also think they have all the problems in the world when they are actually boffins who scrounge off of mummy and daddy and live in a big mansion. But for attention they think it's cool to slit their wrists and then go and broadcast it. They wear tight black jeans, converses, scarfs (even when it's hot), thick rimmed geeky glasses, and all look like clones of eachother. When they are not self harming they skip around town pissing everyone off with their high pitching yelling. They like to go to crappy gigs and chat about how shit their lives are. They hate everyone apart from eachother.
