punk rock

Punk rock is a style of music that doesn't always have to be fast, loud, and deliberately offensive, but usually is.
Bands that helped create this style of music would be such bands as the Ramones, Sex Pistols, Bad Religion, NOFX, the Vandals, and every single other band that keeps punk alive.
Oh and GC isn't punk, pop-punk is still good in Enemy You, Teen Idols, and the Travoltas.

Kid 1: Taking Back Sunday is so punk
Kid 2: No...no they aren't

punk rock

punk rock is a type of music usually 3 chord progressions but can be more. its generally short fast paced angst nihilistic music. punk started in the late 60's with lou reed and the velvet underground, iggy pop and the stooges, and the new york dolls. then in the mid 70s bands like the ramones and richard hell and the voidoids formed and began playing at the cbgb in new york. then quickly after that there were punk bands in the u.k. like the buzzcocks, the damned, the clash, and the sex pistols. they were more about making a statement than musical talent. there then was then L.A. scene with bands like the germs,x,black flag, and the weirdo's. then there were several other scenes like the DC scene with bands like minor threat and Bad brains. but there are many differant types of punk like pop punk bands like the ramones and the buzzcocks, which was catchy melodic tunes. theres Oi punk which is like the exploited and Sham 69, which is like more of the nazi punk type of music it is usually racist. theres ska/ragae ragae is like bob marley which may not generally be considered punk but it kinda goes along with it and is somewhat the influence for ska which is like faster raggae like operation ivy. theres hardcore which is like bands like the dead kennedys, bad religion, the germs, circle jerks, and black flag. theres new wave which most ppl may not consider to be a type of punk but it is whether or not u want to admit it, these bands are like devo, blondie, and duran duran. then there was grunge which was bands like nirvana, foo fighters, and soundgarden. umm thats about it but umm this is responding to an earlier post where someone said the new bands like gc and simple plan are just like boy bands with instruments lol i think thats pretty funny and its pretty true. umm but i dont think there is a specific term for "being punk" as ive heard people say. Jello said its thinking for yourself which i think is true and u should be independant and not some trendy ass "mall punk" ok well thats it.

i dont really have an example that i didnt already list up there ^

punk rock

The most powerful and energetic music ever made. THe music that doesnt hold back and refuses to be censored. the musics who has something to say about everything, and most importantly the music that will never die as long as punk bands are still making good music (The Virus, THe Unseen, lots of local bands, and etc.), the punk music that was made a long time ago (Minor Threat, Social Distorion, Bad Brains, Conflict, The Exploited, Black Flag, The Subhumans, The Germs, and i could go on forever) lives on inside us and influences us still, and that there are still true punks that support the scene. In the words of The Exploited, "Punk's Not Dead!"

Punk1: Good Charlotte and Simple plan and all those other pop punks band killed punk.
Punk2: Punk's not dead! Those bands do suck ass, but they didnt kill punk. punk'll never die.

punk rock

a style of music that is rebelious to all that is popular in society. It goes against anything that is trendy. Punk rock is usually fast and the lyrics are of importance to what the band believes. But this is not a neccessity. Emo should not be in the same category as punk because it sux. Those emo kids need to shut the fuck up and quit complaining.

The Sex Pistols, The casulaties, Anti-Flag, NOFX, Rancid, The CLash, 7 seconds, Lars Fredricksen and the Bastards, Operation Ivy, Black Flag, Rollins band(pretty much black flag but more hard-core), The Unseen, Bad Religoin, Aerosol Methods(a punk band from Laurens, SC www.purevolume.com/aerosolmethods) Public Enemy was punk althought they sang rap. These are all punk rock bands.

punk rock

A genre of rock started in the 70s and lasted through the 80s. There are still some punk bands now, but they are very scarce.

The media tries to tell you that punk is listening to My Chemical Romance or dressing in all black, etc. However, true punks dress according to their whim and listen to whatever they want.

Emo kids are just pseudo-punks. Don't let them convince you that they are individuals, because emo is the mainstream trend of 2005. True punk has no set style or gimmick.

REAL punk rock: Dead Kennedys, Ramones, Rancid.
FAKE punk rock: Blink 182, Good Charlotte, Green Day.
