Ama

Italian word predominantly used in the gay community in Milan.

1. (Noun) Feminine version of vocative “amo” (sweety/dear/darling, derived from “amore” ) with “a” ending instead of “o”. This word was created by the Milanese gay community, specifically from those who tend to call they gay male friends with feminine adjective.

2. (Noun) Deriving from meaning 1., “ama” became the noun defining gay male Milanese boys, usually those who has feminine behaviours and gender fluid clothes, are related with fashion, female rappers, vogueing and are usually very superficial and very sexually active and/or promiscuous.

Being the result do ending change from another word, ama is both singular and plural.

1). Ama, che bella che sei stasera! (Love, you look great tonight)

2) Friend 1: Did you see him? He’s cute!

Friend 2: who? That ama over there with a croptop and glitters?

Friend 3: what? Since when do you like Ama? I thought you weren’t into that kind of superficial environment.
