False nine

The false nine is a footballer who starts in the position of a striker - who in 1-11 numbers traditionally wears the number nine shirt. Rather than running forwards however, the false nine stays where he is or moves backwards; therefore playing a midfield role and fooling the opposition into thinking he's an attacking player.

Wrexham are using a false nine up-front - that's why they're winning.

False dichotomy

Two ideas presented as the exclusive set of options when more options exist.

“‘Stay faithful, or stay single’ is what I always say.”
“False dichotomy, dude—what if you’re poly?”

false pretense

In law, it means making untrue statements for the purpose of obtaining money or property. It is a form of theft.

But it could also be a false representation of fact or circumstance; misleading; lying.

Disney should be charged with false pretense for making little boys and girls believe that life always has a happy ending, for making boys and girls believe that a bully will always get what they deserve, and for making little girls believe that there is a prince charming out there waiting to sweep them off their feet. This misrepresentation of life that Disney gives leads to their money gain.

False dichotomy

Thinking that there are only two possibilities when there are more.

1.
Louise: I love cats.
Keisha: why don’t you like dogs?
Louise: I like both, liking cats and liking dogs aren’t mutually exclusive. Thinking they are is a false dichotomy.

2.
Person 1: I’m not a liberal.
Person 2: so you’re a conservative?
Person 1: no I’m independent. Why do people see politics as a false dichotomy.

False friend

A fake friend who asks a lot of favors, but never once did appreciate the time he/she consumed nor return the favors you gave....

I remember you and I used to watch each other's back, lookin' out for one another, but this mofucker went and crossed the line. That's when I knew I had to cut him/her off; for you's a false friend! A cancer to our circle.

false teller

Someone who uses harmless falsenesses integrated into vaguely truthful stories with the intent of having a good laugh with friends. The juvial nature of the false teller does not in anyway make him a liar

Stephen I am not a liar I'm a false teller!!

False Hope

When someone makes you believe or give you feelings about something that isn’t true.

She gave me false hope, by giving me an almond that could not be opened. I expected to eat the almond, but therefore couldn’t since it was sealed closed, so she gave me false hope.
