Lip service or insincere, hypocritical, and empty pronouncements especially from government officials.
This originated from the Philippine President Rodrigo Duterteβs presidential campaign where he promised to help and protect Filipino fisherfolks to freely and safely fish on the West Philippine Sea without the intimidation of the Chinese Coastguard illegally occupying the area. He said if needed, heβll bring the Navy with him and ride a JET SKI to erect a flag to a Chinese airport built on an artificial island on the West Philippines Sea.
Duterte has since made no action on the matter despite the international arbitral tribunal ruling in favor of the Philippines. Since his election, Duterte approved numbers of government projects and policies in favor of Chinese government and businessmen.
Duterteβs recent statement saying he considered to resign is just another Jet ski statement. He said that thousand times without really doing it.
An example of ridiculous Corporate-Speak. It is a positioning statement used by whoever is in charge to guide the participants of a project towards the desired aim or business goal.
It is a classic example of using three words when one will suffice !
"What's our steering wheel statement for this project/mission/job <delete as appropriate>?"
A statement that is allegedly so self-evidently true that it cannot be argued against, thus extinguishing any debate on the subject under discussion. It is often employed by those that don't understand the issues and don't wish to reveal that ignorance.
"I don't like all this new building in rural areas." "Well, you can't stop progress!" "That's a typical fire blanket statement, just what do you mean by progress?"
"I am against making ID Cards compulsory" "I don't see the problem, if you've nothing to hide, whats the harm?" "Stop using a fire blanket statement, its not about hiding anything, just personal privacy!"

GOP: The world is made up of 98% dead babies!
Person With Brains: That is just not even close to being true!
GOP: Well... That remark was not intended to be a factual statement.
PWB: Then why did you say it?
GOP: We never expected to get caught!
PWB: Then it is a blatant lie!
GOP: Sure, if you look at it that way. We conservatives don't see things that way.
PWB: Um... Yeah... a lie!
