ok..its time for a neutral definition of Islam on here because attacking other religions when you don't truly understand their teachings is a bit childish, dontcha think? :)
1. islam tells women to do is to be obedient to their husbands and husbands have to be respectful and considerate towards their wives. most people don't follow this rule but that is just that has NOTHING to do with islam. most people think that the quran says 'its ok to hit women' it doesnt say that anywhere. different people have different interpretation of the same script. My interpretation doesn’t say anything like that
2. jihad is only allowed in islam if someone starts a war against your religion
3. in islam, you cant force people to do things they dont want to do.
4. fasting in islam (or going hungry from sunrise to sunset) is done to feel the pain of the poor. we also have to give out money to the poor and helpless every year to help them out. fasting is not useless, it teaches one patience and considerateness
5. people get angry and offended when someone makes fun of them and they have different ways of handling their anger. likewise, muslims do get offended when someone makes fun of their religion. i am not saying its ok for people to go around killing each other when they're offended but i am also not saying its ok for people to constantly put people down just because their religious views differ from yours. harassing people is just going to fuel unnecessary arguments.
islam is just like any other religion out there.

Muslims believe that God sent his messengers and prophets to all people and God's final message to humanity, a reconfirmation of the eternal message and a summing up of all that had gone before, was revealed to the Last Prophet Muhammad through the angel Gabriel. The sacred text of Islam is the Qur'an (also spelled Koran; multiple spellings).

One of the greatest religions in the world. Also the fastest growing Abrahamic religion in the world. Some of the things in common it has with other Abrahamic religions (Christianity and Judaism) are:
-Abraham as an important religious figure (duh)
-Religious scriptures
-Monotheism
-Some connection with Jerusalem
Followers of Islam are called Muslims.
One of the main reasons why Islam is associated with terrorism is not because of Islam itself, but because of it's followers.
One of the most important religious scriptures in Islam is called the Holy Quran.
Islam is the greatest religion and Muslims are its worst followers.

Followers are called Muslims. Their holy book is called the Koran, Kuran, Qu'ran, or Qu'raan. Their holy city is Mecca, located in the Middle East. Important figures in Islamic history and theology include Mohammad, Khadija, Fatimah, Ali Ibn Abu Talib, Abu Bakr, Emperor Akbar, Emperor Shah Jahan, Queen Mumtaz, and many others that I am not aware of. True Muslims are expected to pray in the direction of Mecca five times a day, follow the month-long partial fast of Ramadan as well as other cultural festivals and fasts, and not worship any other gods except Allah.
OPINION: I know many Muslims and they are all free-thinking, secular, and wonderful people, BUT it cannot be denied that some of the most powerful figures of the religion are cruel and vindictive - therefore the faith gets negative attention from the media - attention that is well-deserved, but simply should be redirected to the individuals and groups that choose to interpret Islam in a horrible way. And others here need to get off their high horse and realize that Islam DOES have flaws, just like any other religion, and DOES leave room to be interpreted in a violent way. Even if they are "0.01%" of your population, accept that the majority of terrorism comes from Islamic fundamentalists. How about this: We promise not to judge you all as a group if you promise to take a stand against your misguided brothers with us.
There's a lot of controversy today about Islam and where it stands in modern, secular society.

Peace in arabic = Salam

a lot of definitions have been made about islam, some true, others well.. not so much.
let's get a few things straight:
1) Islam does NOT promote killing of non muslims, in fact one of my favorite passages in the Quran states: ("I worship not that which you worship, Nor will you worship that which I worship. And I shall not worship that which you are worshipping. Nor will you worship that which I worship. To you be your religion, and to me my religion") Which basically means that Allah is telling his Prophet not to argue with the disbelievers but leave them alone.
2) Just because people are muslim doesn't mean they are terrorists, so you can stop glaring at them or treating them like scum, because that is racism. We don't live to bomb America or to kill everyone, we really don't care about America, the media spews out the most horrible propganda, the people you see on the news bombing planes and cars are NOT MUSLIM!! WHY? BECAUSE YOU CAN'T BE MUSLIM IF YOU KILL SOMEONE!! KILLING SOMEONE, ANYONE IS LIKE DENOUNCING YOUR FAITH IN ISLAM.
3) Again - our reason for living is NOT to bomb America - have you ever read anywhere in the Quran that we should kill people because they are not muslim/are american?? NO! CAUSE IT AIN'T TRUE!!!
4) Just because I am muslim does not mean I can't be friends with Jews or Christians or Buddhists or whatever, or that I have to hate all other religions!! A story about the Prophet Mohammed tells: The Prophet (pbuh) was passing a Jewish funeral and he stopped to pay his respects. When reminded that the person being buried was a Jew, Mohammed replied, "He is still human though." He showed the value given to humankind in Islam. And once, Islamic troops took a city and began killing the children, but the Prophet Mohammed stopped them. When they told him the people in this city were infidels, he reminded them that they themselves had all been infidels until recently."
5) Not all muslims are weirdo wahabbi followers, those people are misled and ignorant; For example, the Wahabbis are taught by rote that Jews are subhumans who should be killed as a religious duty. In contrast, the Hadith explains that the prophet Mohammed honored Jews, married a Jewish wife, forbade forced conversions of Jews, always bowed in respect when a Jewish funeral passed, and promised that good and faithful Jews would go to Paradise just as good Muslims and Christians would, and that the Jews would have their Holy Place in the west (meaning Jerusalem) while Muslims would have their Holy Place in the East (meaning Mecca).
So get the facts straight, racism is so uncool, you keep preaching against racism but at the same time you are opressing muslims for their beliefs.
Me: Islam doesnt promote all that horrible stuff so getchar facts straight before you start giving muslims dirty looks at the airport! it hurts!
