nu-metal

Classified by some people to be any rock band that sounds sorta hard and gets MTV and radio play. Much of it IS unoriginal and contains meaningless repetitive lyrics but that doesn't mean all nu-metal sucks. Unimaginative doesn't equal untalented. Sounding similar doesn't necessarily equal cookie cutter pattern. Some is all of the above but if you like it, then that's your choice. Songs like Headstrong by Trapt are pretty catchy, though.

Apparently it's cool to hate the mainstream and nu-metal is no exception.

nu-metal

A marketing term used by record companies to classify a band. Usually it is used in an insulting kind of way, and many bands are unwillingly placed in the genre. Often confused with New Metal.

Check out that nu-metal band.

Metal-Poser

A young person (typically female or feminine/emo male) who listens to metalcore, deathcore or nu-metal. These genres represent the extremely commercial form of metal music and are designed for teenage girls/boys. These genres are widely considered as fake metal or poser metal among the true metal-fans.

Bands like Bullet For My Valentine, Bring Me The Horizon, As I Lay Dying and Slipknot are typical examples about fake metal, poser metal and mallcore.

Metal-poser is basically a fan of nu-metal, metalcore or deathcore.

True Metalhead: "I enjoy many different metal sub-genres like heavy metal, power metal, NWOBHM, thrash metal, speed metal, black metal, viking metal, progressive metal, death metal and doom metal. Some of my favourite bands include Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Death, Saxon, Mercyful Fate, Led Zeppelin, Satyricon, Kreator, Slayer, Behemoth and Amon Amarth. I have a lot of respect for the fore-fathers of metal music and I buy real albums."

Metal-Poser: "I just downloaded some songs by Bullet For My Valentine and I Killed the prom Queen. Man, they are sooo br00tal."

True Metalhead: "What are you? A Metal-Poser?"

metal head

Alot of the definitions on here are pretty accurate, but I'll fill in the gaps.

First off, I'm a metal head, so I'll write this as unbiased as I can. Metal heads are simply a person who listens to, likes, and UNDERSTANDS all types of metal exluding Nu./Alt. metal. Yes, most metal heads have long or close shaven hair, but thats not true for all. Band shirts and jeans are common, but not all of us wear them. Personally I wear bondage pants (i.e. Tripps), because I find them alot more comfortable than jeans. We tend to keep a very close circle of friends, but we will respect anyone who shows us respect and isn't fake about who they are. We view ALL of our fellow metal heads as brothers and sisters, regardless of race, religion, etc. We will also acknowledge any artist for their talent, even if we don't like them.

Alot of people might be turned away from metal heads because we can look pretty intimidating, and let's face it, we are known for our love of a good pit, and our love for a good fight. But, once you get to know us, we are some of the most calm, down to earth people you will ever meet.

Only the Kings of Metal themselves, ManOwaR, could write a fitting song about the true metal heads, The Brothers of Metal.

"Strike while the iron is hot
Steel is strongest, so say we all
And if we all were not brothers of metal would we fall?
NO!!!
They tried to test our spirit
They tasted steel before we were done
Grinding their bones into the dust of the past
All blown away like a shot from a gun

We cast our lot together four still stand as one
Here we'll remain forever till our kindgdoms one

Brothers of metal
We are fighting with power and steel
Fighting for metal metal that's real
Brothers of metal will always be there
Standing together with hands in the air

Let us drink to the power drink to the sound
Thunder and metal are shaking the ground
Drink to your brothers who are never to fall
We are brothers of metal here in the hall

Our hearts are filled with metal and masters we have none
And we will die for metal, metal heals, my son

Brothers of metal
We are fighting with power and steel
Fighting for metal that's all that's real
Brothers of metal will always be there
Standing together with hands in the air

Let us drink to the power drink to the sound
Thunder and metal are shaking the ground
Drink to your brothers who are never to fall
We are brothers of metal here in the hall

Brothers of metal
We are fighting with power and steel
Fighting for metal that's all that's real
Brothers of metal will always be there
Standing together with hands in the air."

Heavy Metal

is a subgenre of rock. it chracterized by heavy distored guitar shreding at the speed of light(depends on what subgenre it is) it has a loud thunderous drum( which metal drums are the best drums ever played) and bass( a very underated instrument) section and is topped by a vocalist singing louder than hell. there is actually lots of diffrent types of vocals but the main ones are high octave(classic metal), guttural(death, black) and what i call thrash vocals(basiclly niether high or low just in between speaking/singing. can be very fast or slow depending on what subgenre it is. this genre of music has many subgenres in it which have sub genres of its own, many of the popular subgenres are thrash metal, death, black and power metal. its roots can be traced back to classical music, blues, even jazz, and rock and really kicked off when black sabbath came aorund with their 1970 album black sabbath
the lyrical themes are all over the charts. but some of the common themes are about rebellion, seperation, war and violence, counter culture, history, why mankind does stuff and philosophy, politics and corruption.
fans are often called metalheads, look that up and are all over the place in asia europe south america and america. warning we metalheads are extremely rabid and will defend our music at any cost ANY COST

whether metal is good or bad music depends on you and your opinion and your taste

World Metal

Heavy metal mixed with world music- traditional music done by indigenous folk (African, Austrailian, Middle Eastern, etc.) Instruments such as native aucoustic instruments and drums are used along side with heavy metal instruments.

World metal was most likely created and influenced by the Brazilian death metal group Sepultura (which is my most favorite metal band).

It is a very innovative type of heavy metal because they brought two completely different sounds and fused them together with nice results.

Sepultura, Soulfly, Ektomorf, etc. and even System of a Down have experimented with world metal.
