Punk is Dead

The truth. See also rap sucks

Although punk music fans (not the dirtbags who refer to themselves as punks - actual non human-beings) have been saying that punk is dead since 1978, it actually wasn't proven to be true until 1991 or so - the year "punk" broke in America

Since the early 1990s, punk bands are played on the big rock and top 40 stations in even the most rural areas of the United States. Green Day, for instance, sells as many records as 50 Cent and records on about the same six-million dollar budget in the same lavish studios.

Punk rock is recording a demo on a tape recorder in a trailer and selling copies of the tapes out of the back of your 1973 Ford Galaxy.

Now a fashion trend dominated by white prep school kids and emos.

How can anyone today disagree with the fact that punk is dead and has been for almost 20 years now?

disco punk

Dance punk was first used in the early 80s (possibly in Great Britain) as a term used for post-punk groups with a slower, more rhythmic tempo which made it easier to dance to. The bands then could have had influences from disco, funk, and any other dance music popular at the time. Bands such as Public Image Ltd. and The Clash were known to have been referred to as dance punk at times. As techno became popular in the 80s and 90s some punk/post punk bands became influenced by this genre. Around this time the few (if any) dance punk like bands were labeled punk-funk. All of this leads to the dance punk of today, spearheaded by LCD Soundsystem, !!!, The Rapture, and many others.

A recent British off-shoot of this branch is the newly-coined term new rave. This genre includes such acts as Klaxons, New Young Pony Club, and SHITDISCO. It has been suggested, however, that new rave is the invention of British publication NME(among others). Indeed, it is questionable whether or not there is an appreciable difference between new rave and dance-punk.

edit

disco punk has been dead since the 80s.

punk rock

A genre of rock started in the 70s and lasted through the 80s. There are still some punk bands now, but they are very scarce.

The media tries to tell you that punk is listening to My Chemical Romance or dressing in all black, etc. However, true punks dress according to their whim and listen to whatever they want.

Emo kids are just pseudo-punks. Don't let them convince you that they are individuals, because emo is the mainstream trend of 2005. True punk has no set style or gimmick.

REAL punk rock: Dead Kennedys, Ramones, Rancid.
FAKE punk rock: Blink 182, Good Charlotte, Green Day.

punk rock

Started out as music but then quickly became a clique for trendy,fashion-conscious,middle-schoolers.

Every now and then an actual punk band plays some actual punk. This doesn't happen very often though. You usually have to sift through mountains of gay bullshit to get to the good punk!
