2021 Texas Power Crises

The 2021 Texas Power Crises was a mass scale power outage that occurred throughout most of Texas from February 10th-20th. This outage was caused by several winter storms and ultimately caused 5 million Texans to lose power, for days or even weeks.

After the event, it is thought that at least 111 people died (mainly from Carbon Monoxide Poisoning and Hypothermia). Furthermore, the storm caused anywhere from 195-295 billion dollars in damage, making it the deadliest disaster in Texas’s History.
While the cause of this disaster was the Snow Storm, many believe that ERCOT, an organization that manages Texas’s electric grid, was responsible. They point out how ERCOT was negligent of the situation as they took few precautions prior to the storm. Either way, however, the impacts of what occurred are still ongoing as some Texans (as of April 14th) are without power.

Bob: “Remember that terrible outage in Texas during CoVid-19?”
Jim: “Oh yeah. I think it’s called the 2021 Texas Power Crises.”
