After receiving an answer from someone, and it's not the answer you were looking for, you then proceed to ask someone else for an answer you were looking for

Dad told me I couldn't have friends over, so then I went answer shopping towards my mom and she told me I could have friends over tonight!

When you ask one person a question and they say no and then you ask another person the same question hoping for them to say yes.

“No”
“Dad can I go out tonight”
