a strategy that rarely works where someone continues being friends with their romantic interest thinking they have a chance to get with them, even though the other person blindly hooks up with everyone but them because they are "such good friends"

Bench friend

That friend that isn't quite good enough to be the first call when you have something cool happen. They only get the call when the First string friend isn't answering.
