Book girls are typically white millennials that are compared to Horse Girls. They enjoy reading YA romance and fan fiction, possibly delving into adult romance and fantasy.
Book girls sport low pony tails, ill-fitting tops or boxy fandom t-shirts, bootcut jeans, and sneakers or basic flats. They had tumblr accounts during their youth, sticking to the mantra of being “unlike other girls” and having an air of superiority. This mindset is rooted in misogyny, as they judge women that wear makeup, are conventionally attractive, sleep with men, party, and care about things they find frivolous. This is all an attempt at being “one of the good ones” in the eyes of potential romantic partners just like the protagonists in the books they read.
Book girls project by judging other women that have what they secretly want. They may have the following thoughts:
“I don’t know what he sees in her. She’s a blonde bimbo while I read books and have intelligence.”
“I’m basically one of the guys because I’m low maintenance and down to earth, unlike their skinny shopaholic girlfriends.”
“I have a super sarcastic and quirky personality. I think it takes a long time for guys to get used to my dark sense of humor. I’m just not like other girls.”
Book girls emotionally remain in the past, replaying their high school days through the books they read. This causes them to project their insecurities onto unsuspecting people that are forced to interact with them.
Melissa thinks I’m not attracted to her because she’s not a “skinny prep”, but it’s really because her personality sucks. Too bad she turned out to be a raging book girl.

A book girl is a very smart girl, sometimes attractive. They usually score higher than average grades in school, and are in constant competition with others to be number one. They have no life goals except to be on the Deans list, get an A in every class, and work at top tier companies. Most are crazy, in that an “A-“is something to cry and bitch over, because it’s “failing”. The average book girl doesn't have many friends, nor do they socialize well with others. They read for hours a day, without admitting it, and are usually thought of as someone stupid by other classmates because they are not extraverts. Usually book girls aren’t identified on the spot but rather when someone exclaims how the “girl over there, got the only A on the exam” etc. Most book girls wonder why they can't or don't find many men suitable for them. This is because of their high emphasis on school and grades and therefore a lack of outside hobbies. Most attractive men give a book girl the cold shoulder due to their zero interest in having a social life beyond school. Most of these girls are hated by average men as well, due to the fact that they lie about school and social activities (supposed cool stuff) they claim to be doing outside of school/work a lot, which is not true. Most book girls attempt to be cool and claim they don't study nor do they ever say how they do in school. However, they almost usually get A's and the way to know this is when they claim they did badly yet they "smile". They are hated much by all people because of their "lies" about being average like others when they are not and how they find it funny to laugh at the others whom are misfortunate when it comes to grades. The average book girl will never get married (and remains a virgin for a long time) or doesn't get married at all, if so well until their late 30's to mid 40's. This is because of there stuck up attitude, they are not found very attractive (even if they look good), and need things to always be perfect, hence trying to find the perfect man, which in reality doesn't exist. The way to know when men are referring to a book girl is when discussing among themselves about the girls they meet, and ask if the girl is “normal”. If the girl isn't considered “normal” then they are a book girl, and are not hit on no further. If they are considered “cool” then they are down to earth and not a book girl.
Ben: Dude you see that girl over there, she is the only one who got an A on the test.
Dave: Yea, I asked her if she would help me, and she claims she needs a tutor herself, what bs. She also said she didn't do so hot, I didn't know she passed.
Ben: what a book girl

The Gossip Girl Books are written by Cecily von Ziegesar. They are books describing the lives of different poeple on the Upper East Side in New York City. It discusses parties, the presence of drugs and alcohol, family life, events, such as fashion shows and charity get togethers, vacations, schooling, and of course designer clothes. Two people the books follows are Blaire and Serena who lead the most fabulous lives including vacations in St. Barths, beautiful luxurious penthouses, and private schools for the uber rich. These girls are socialites and truly live the socialite life with their pictures in big papers and glossy magazines. These books are addictive and unforgettable. You will not be able to put them down unless you are jealous of the rich and famous, which most people are I suppose.
Girl 1: I read the entire Gossip Girl series in one day. They are impossible to put down!
Girl 2: Those books disgust me. I bought the first one and threw it away.
Girl 1: Well I am gorgeous and rich so I can read the books without getting jealous.
Girl 2: Hmf!

Decently written but slightly overrated book series by Cecily Von Ziegesar. These were perhaps the first books to describe the lives of wealthy, slightly screwed-up young adults, but they were certainly not the last. Many similar series have followed, including The Clique, The A-list, and Private.
They are very popular among girls who dislike reading, because they describe a glamorous world and reading them is very wish-fulfilling. However, they've got plenty of literary references in them that sail over the heads of most teenage readers.
They're more or less well-written, give credit where credit is due, but let's get one thing straight: they are not great American literature or anything.
Obsessed and slightly dippy fangirl: I looooove the gossip girl books, they're soooo high lit.
Nice, normal person: they're all right, but perhaps you just wish you were Serena?
Obsessed and slightly dippy fangirl: nooooo! they're deep! they're high literature!
Nice, normal person: yeah... keep telling yourself that.
