dumb as dust

We’ve all heard of “dumb as a brick”, but at least a brick can hold it together. Dumb as dust, is to describe someone dumber than a brick.

X is dumb as dust.

When X does something dumb you can say “man it’s dusty in here” or “it’s a little dusty today”
