A public college in New York City which provides people a chance to pursue higher education in the Big Apple who would otherwise be unable -- or simply unwilling -- to pay 200k for a bachelors degree. Many of the school's professors are not only graduates of the country's finest doctoral programs (this is a nyc job market we're talking about, after all), but also teach the very same classes they offer at Hunter at schools like NYU and Columbia (On a side note, it is not uncommon to hear these professors venting to their working and middle-class students about the snobbery and grade-entitlement which runs rampant in these aforementioned universities.)
Because Hunter is a CUNY school, dorms aren't part of the typical vocabulary of most students. Fortunately, there are more interesting places to live, anyway; various neighborhoods in Brooklyn, a few in Queens and Uptown Manhattan (i.e., East Harlem) typically fit the bill.
Of course, NYC is full of snotty trustafarians and the average Hunter student knows this, and therefore knows her school's place in the social hierarchy of nyc colleges. The glamor life often assoicated with the Washington Square set typically eludes her, for better or worse. However, there is something to be said regarding the fact that Hunter's student body isn't famous for jumping off either one of its two roof decks.
Ex. 1) Like, Gossip Girl isn't, like, a blue print for living your twenties in nyc. ewww -- next you're, like, totally going to tell me you went to Hunter.
Ex. 2) What do you mean you pay your own tuition???
Well, I go to Hunter College (CUNY), so it's not too bad. Perhaps I'll splurge on grad. school.

Known as one of the top CUNY's in the CUNY system, its really the school for people for get rejected from NYU and Columbia. It's in the Upper east side of Manhattan and yet it's dorms are in a completely different part of the city (your meant to commute to school while your dorming, which defeats the purpose to dorm in the first place). It's a large school with about 15 to 20 thousand students and yet again its dorms only hold about 6 or 7 hundred people (again, makes no sense). People at this school either take it seriously like its another NYU (even though it doesn't even compare), or don't take it seriously here at all (since it is another CUNY) and end up failing out. It's also known as one of the most diverse schools in the country, but then again, what public school in NYC isn't a diverse school? And also known for being one of the ugliest campus's in the country. It's easy for even the ugliest of people to find someone here for them since this school is mostly a combination of nerds and lazy popular/wanna be popular people. But Hunter College is the school to go to if you want to go to school in New York, New York; commute from home for all 4 years of college (unless you get into their honor's college and get a free dorm room, or amazingly enough get an impossible to get dorm room), and have no social life.
person # 1: So yea, I ended up coming here since I didn't get into NYU and it's still in the city.
person # 2: Yea, same here. One of my friends that's a senior here finally got a dorm room here after trying to since he was a freshman.
person # 1: Oh, really? How does he like it?
person # 2: He hates it. There's never anything to do and he still has to walk to the subway to get here everyday.
person # 1: This is what happens when you go to CUNY Hunter College.

Continuation of New York City's failing public high schools. The people who say this school is equivalent to Columbia but fifty thousand dollars cheaper are just lying to themselves to feel better about going to a crappy school. CUNY schools had open admissions from 1969-1999 at all its senior colleges, so CUNY degrees for the most part are just trash.
CUNY Student: I goto Hunter College (CUNY), it's like Harvard and Columbia but very cheap, I only pay $3 to attend a year.
Person: You're not a genius, and CUNY schools are shit, stop comparing CUNY to Ivy Leagues

A very smart school filled with happy students who are no different than students at other schools, just smarter. A selective school that lets students in at seventh grade instead of freshman year of high school, which gets rid of stress on parents, because they don't have to apply their child to high school. It is filled with many students who were unwilling at first, but now love the school. Also, there are around 240 students per grade.
I came to Hunter College High School unwillingly, but now I love it!

Possibly one of the most hated GPS schools, along with Saint Ignatius, Shore, Grammar, High and Newington. They are a bunch of wannabe mad dogs, but fail. They have been known to recruit a bunch of Aboriginals on rugby scholarships. Yer. GREAT WORK GUYS. Most of the other schools question the Joey's sexuality as well. Ok, they wear pink rugby jerseys, not friggen cerise. But cerise still sounds gay, so i dunno what they are whingeing about. Other interesting facts-
