part time job

A job whose hours are generally anything up to (and including) 24 hours (or 28 hours depending on the company) per week. Usually intended as a supliment to the full time staff.

Depending on the company, part time jobs may or may not have guarenteed hours (in other words some weeks you'll be lucky to get one 8 hour shift while others you might get the full 24 (or 28) hours or anything in between.

Part time jobs usually also don't have guarenteed shifts; meaning one shift you might work evenings, another days, another afternoons and maybe even nights in some cases.

The length of the shifts is also variable, could be full 8 hour days but could also only be 4-5 hour days; so if you get 24 hours, it may not be three eight-hour shifts and could be four six-hour shifts or maybe even six four hour.

The shifts, hours worked etc vary wildey from company to company.

In some companies (espcially ones with high turnover) they'll start people on as part time staff as a sort of test to see if the job is right for them. If they 'last' for a certain amount of time, they'll probbaly be asked to go full time.

Guy #1: Man, last week I got a full 24 hours and worked Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday; this week I'm only working Monday and Tuesday 9-1, what's up with that?

Guy# 1: What can say? It's a part time job; hours and shifts arn't guarenteed.

big time jobs

this odd use of word combination comes from when my friends and i used to anticipate the show dirty jobs. We would say something like:

"Dirty Jobs is comin on soon."

Also around that time the oaktons would say:

"big time"

which means someone would agree excitingly with something someone was saying or doing
For example:

"yo dirty jobs is on" - phil
"big time!" - pat (pat agrees with umph!"

now getting back to jobs
when somebody would say

"jobs is comin on!"

somebody would then respond

"YO BIG TIME DIRTY JOBS" (meaning good i love dirty jobs)

but then one day our slang inventive saying friend dave said something that clicked, it went something like this:

"yo dirty jobs is comin on" - phil
"YO BIG TIME JOBS" - dave

the way he pronounced this was hilarious to us and it clicked.from then on when someone or something would do or say or be something that they liked the oaktons would respond
"BIG TIME JOBS"

Dave: Yo lets hit a jak
Michael: Yo big time jobs"

full-part-time job

Any job that is, by the company, officially considered part time, but in order to keep the job, you actually have to work full-time hours illegaly and there isn't anything you can do about it because you're too much of a pussy to say anything.

Friend 1: You wanna hang this weekend?

Friend 2: Nah, I've been busting ass at my job all week, I need a break.

Friend 1: I though you only worked part time?

Friend 2: Nope, it's a full-part-time job.
