Nine bob note

A pseudo-comical term used to describe an effeminate man. It was in common use prior to the decimalisation of the currency in 1971, when a ‘bob’ meant one shilling. It refers to the ten shilling note (10/-); and alludes to a male who seeks sexual comfort from other males with a fraudulent currency note or forgery.

Nine bob note

UK: Term leftover from before the decimalisation of British currency (1971).

It implies that something is dodgy or not kosher.
A ten bob (shilling) note was legal pre-decimal paper currency.

bent as a nine bob note

Extremely homosexual.

British slang, "bent" being slang for gay, and a "nine bob note" being a fictitious currency ("bob" is slang for shilling, or post-decimalization, a five pent coin).

Similar to US slang "queer as a three dollar bill".

That guy in the hot pants was bent as a nine bob note!
