Ripplecussion

An unintended string of consequences (multiple, more than just one) that occur after an event and which roll out one after another, like a stone causing ripples in a pond.

The ripplecussion of sending a nuclear device to destroy the incoming comet was a string of smaller comets which hit Earth over the course of several months and destroyed much of our satellite communication fleet.
