saving grace

A positive quality (grace) that saves somebody from being perceived as useless or undesirable. Often misused in this way: "my friend bought me a beer for my birthday, he/she is my saving grace"

"Michelle may not be a pretty girl, but those tits are her saving grace."

Saving grace

A seemingly negative situation that inadvertently results in a relatively positive outcome.

Smoking meth became a sort of saving grace for Bob. On one hand, he lost all his teeth; on the other, he was at his most productive.

Saving grace

A Gracenote that resolves something in music

I used to saving grace to resolve a cadence, since I do not have any room to fit any more notes
