Seven Sisters

Refers to the seven small contiguous states in the Nort East Region of India: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura.

The rest of mainland India is only connected to Assam properly; if you have to go to any of the other seven sisters, you need to make a stop at Assam.

Seven Sisters

one of many names for the famous Pleiades star cluster located in the constellation Taurus the Bull. Other popular names are the Hoeing Stars, Seven Maidens, the Rosary, M45 (an astronomy catalog designation), and Subaru (that is where the Japanese car company gets its name, "Subaru" is the Japanese name for the star cluster and an emblem depicting the cluster is on every Subaru car). A look thru simple binoculars will reveal much more than seven stars in the star conglomeration.

It's autumn time, the sky is clear, and I can see the Seven Sisters over the Cooks' house. Let's get a closeup view of it all!

seven sisters

The Seven Sisters is the name which was given in 1927 to seven liberal arts women's colleges in the United States (the colleges, themselves, were all founded between 1837-1889). The colleges included Barnard, Bryn Mawr, Mount Holyoke, Radcliffe, Smith, Vassar and Wellesley. Five of the seven remain women's colleges today and only one (Radcliffe, which merged into Harvard) no longer exists.
Mount Holyoke, Smith College, Bryn Mawr College, and Wellesley College are still women's colleges. Barnard College is still affiliated with Columbia University but remains an independent women's college.
Irene Harwarth, Mindi Maline, and Elizabeth DeBra also state that "the 'Seven Sisters' was the name given to Barnard, Smith, Mount Holyoke, Vassar, Bryn Mawr, Wellesley, and Radcliffe, because of their parallel to the Ivy League men’s colleges.

I applied to Smith and Vassar because I want to go to a seven sisters college.

seven sisters of the poor

A saying which refers to a shitty opponent, generally a cupcake team in a sporting event.

Matt: "St. Joe's is the BOMB!!! 20-0 bitch, we're AWESOME!!!"
Alex: "Any half decent team would be 20-0 after playing the seven sisters of the poor like they have."
Matt: "Well I never!"
