Wilkes Syndrome

A mental illness where a psychotic fan of a particular celebrity feels the need to force their idol to do their bidding. They would do all sorts of things to make their favorite celeb do work for them, even going as far as to kidnapping them and forcing them to do stuff (this is especially true for certain crazed fans of authors who want their favorite author to write some more novels for them). Another extreme would be killing themselves to reunite with their favorite celebs in the afterlife (one example of this is the Bjork stalker Ricardo Lopez).

The illness is named after the fictional character Annie Wilkes from Stephen King's horror novel Misery.

I once suffered from a small case of Wilkes syndrome, but then I finally woke up and realized that a true fan would never go to extremes to force their favorite celeb to do work for them or kill themselves just to meet them in the afterlife. I don't even know my favorite celebs in real life so it really would be best if I just leave them alone and focus on my own life.

Ashley Wilkes Syndrome (AWS)

Noun
An illness that is regrettably common among male characters in otherwise wonderful works of literature. It has been known to turn its victims into wishy-washy "spineless fools". Symptoms include indecisiveness, an inability to take action, a tendency to loiter around and failure to contribute anything positive to the story.

I was enjoying the book very much until I saw that the love interest had Ashley Wilkes Syndrome (AWS).
