"Put your thumb down" is a phrase that is used when someone try's to throw up the horns (a gesture where you pull in you middle, ring and thumb into your palm. Often used by fans of the metal genre. )but leave the thumb extended.

Often said to newer metalheads or posers. (Keep in mind if you make the mistake as a new metalhead it does not make you a poser.)

Metalhead: "DruidLord is brutal"
New Metalhead: "Fuck yeah it is" *throws horns with thumb*

When someone doesn't text you back after you text them, you text them "cat got your thumbs?". It's a play on "cat got your tongue?", which is an idiom used to compel someone to speak who is unusually quiet.
